Hey guys,

When I went to the market to get a Sipper for my Gym, I found these ingenious piece of innovation at one shop. The guy said these were imported. These apparently have the ice stick which is filled with silicone gel which you can put into freezer for some time and have cold water all the time.

eBay link :

Sports water bottle with ice stick for hiking, cycling - eBay (item 110491786334 end time Feb-17-10 18:01:25 PST)

These were available in a better color combination than the ones in the eBay listing. The build quality was very good ( the eBay ones look flimsy). The one I bought was clear plastic with the blue ice stick and lid. The cost of these was Rs.175 for a piece so I thought of sharing it with the fellow team-mates that if you spot it somewhere, just go ahead and buy it.

Guys, let me know if you want a GO to be started.

Hey..can you tell how does this cold keeping thing work ?? And for how much time will the water stay cold ??

Is it like i remove that stick and keep in freezer overnight and keep it in back in bottle in morning and then pour water in the bottle and that stick will sort of cool the water ???

This works for me for about 3-4 hours in my Bag. This is basically the special kind of gel that retains the coolness and keep the water cool.

The one I got is 400 ml and looks way better than the one in the listing.

Interesting...

is it harmful....?? the gel i mean???

I too have same question. What if gel leaks in water :fear:
You see when we buy new plastic stuff or back pack etc you get that small sachet inside which says "silica gel..DO NOT EAT". Now this stick too has the same.

I remember having one of these wayy back when I was Kindergarten? or Primary school maybe..

Used to have a Dennis the Menace logo and had a little sachet that you popped into the freezer. The sachet and the water in your bottle never made any direct contact so there was no risk of stuff mixing.

Na re, The gel is not like the small balls of silica. I believe its one solid stick inside a plastic casing(which is hard BTW). So no chances of you actually eating the silica .. lol. Also, to remove any more of your paranoia, the silica gel never dissolves in water and there is a filter on the top of the bottle from where you sip the water off.

vWhat if gel leaks in water

No one in India fell sick after eating tatti laced gol gappey at chowpatty and khan chacha's dog-meat kebabs..a little silicon won't do much lol. Worse things floating about in our "mineral water".

Fist of all if it's Chinese, is it HEALTHY, what if the silicone gel or what ever get penetrate in water slowly. You just can guarantee any such products especially UNBRANDED. So be cautious while using such products.

Even with Samsung Referigerator where in ICE compatment there is one box filled with blue color liquid which slow down the ICE melting in case of power off. But, it place in SAFE SIDE & SAID NOT TO PUT ANY PRODUCT OVER the BOX.

Don't want to scare any one but... precaution is better than cure.

HTH

just to let you guys know, silica gel will not dissolve in water. it absorbs moisture and hardens. if it hardens it does not dissolve and to make it a gel you need to heat it to very high temperatures again. [strike]lost the link where I read this. will put it up when I find it again. [/strike]

Here's the link. :)
