Hi Gurus,

I need suggestions for ICE for a 8 seater XYLO. The budget is strictly 15k.
Current setup - None (new car, E4 model does not come with a factory fitted system).
Budget - 15K
Preference - I am a complete n00b when it comes to audio in cars. After browsing through a couple of forums I am thinking on these lines.
HU - Alpine (around 8k- don't know about model number. Need to have USB and iPOD connectivity)
Front - Components from JBL(?) (I guess this is what fits my budget around 4-5k)
Rear - Co-axials 6" JBL again (?) (around 2-3k)
Future upgrades - Probably (if I am able to haggle with my dad successfully :P). An amp and a sub maybe. Keeping this in mind I guess I need to look for HUs with suitable RCA outs (do I require 3?)
Music preference - I like punchy bass rather than thumping bass with good mids. Genres - Soft rock, Alternative Rock, Pop, Bollywood and bit of mainstream everything.

I would prefer the installations to be done on stock locations (no cutting of doors).

Please pour in your suggestions. Specific model numbers and prices will be really helpful.

Regards,
Dhrubo

P.S: Mods, this is my first thread on this forum, for that matter on any forum, so please pardon my ignorance :ashamed:

P.P.S: I thought of posting this in team-bhp but after reading through some of the experiences of members trying to register there, I was put-off. TE is way more friendlier:bleh:

Well, for starters: How about searching through the T-BHP forums for threads that might help? Esp. with the budget in mind?

Well i have been trolling that forum for the past few weeks. And i just seem to get more confused :S. Most of the suggestions are for Pioneer HU and could not find much about entry level Alpines. Also was looking for some suggestion for Compos within the specified budget.

If its a self driven car, I'd suggest that you prioritize the budget as follows:

1. HU

2. Front compos

3. Amplifier

When the budget extension comes in

4. Rear compos/Coaxs

5. Suboofer

Keep in mind that amp + components means an additional ~2k for wiring + installation charges are always extra.

Your choice of equipment is good. See if you can source Clarion DXZ785 USB from Ebay Global Easy Buy or somewhere. It has TA and you can *probably* still get it under 10k. For a big car, TA will surely help!

Else, go for an entry level Alpine at around 9k (I guess the model is 9845). With JBL GT5 amp at 5k and Bull Audio compos at 5k, you are already touching around 20k! ;-)

Thanks Nishant. The inevitable has to happen, the ICE suggestions always end up way above the budget you set out with. :bleh:
But at this moment I cannot spend a dime above 15k (I am struggling to justify the audio needs to other family members). So I really have to take it slow. I understand the amp+compos combo would be much better but I need some sort of sound to fill in for the people in the back seat. So, I guess, I have to push the amp and the sub for the upgrade. What i want to make sure though is there's room for the upgrades, and the HU is something I won't be definitely replacing. Is TA really important for big cars? And if yes, are there any model (other brands pioneer/Kenwood) which fits my budget having this feature? Or is it better to get Alpine which I assume has better on board amplifiers (better than pioneer or kenwood).
I am not comfortable at this moment to buy stuffs from GEB worth 10k, so Clarion is out of question.

I am not sure if Xylo can take 6.5" speakers at front, if yes i would suggest in this budget, you can go for a nice HU either by Alpine or Kenwood and a nice pair pf component speakers (subjected to brand avalaibility), JBL's wont come for 4-5K with bill.. What all brands are avalaible locally?. If you can tell i can suggest you specific model no.s. Also i can give you a good deal on a HU. Pm me if interested.

In a later stage, you can look forward to invest in a 4-ch amplifier and a subwoofer. Also if you plan to add a subwoofer later, then you are better off buying HU with atleast 2 preouts..Also you can save money by not buying coaxials..Components are loud enough and you want the soundstage (or singer in layman language) to be singing at the front not at the back..

Fell free to PM in case of any questions :)

FYI, entry level HUs from Alpine start upwards of 9K. So including that in a budget of 15K, doesn't make sense, does it?

Given that you do not wish to spend a dime over 15K, see what options (configurations) are available locally and then narrow down the options, as per your requirements.

By reading through T-BHP threads that either discuss the configurations possible in a Xylo or for a budget of 15K, you should get a fairly good idea of what's possible.
