Hi All.

I have no clue about ICE. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. So please be gentle when I ask stupid questions.

So My car, Sunny XL. Need to have a lil better sound system.

Requirements

1. 2 DIN HU only please. Otherwise the Dash will look awful
2. I want to avoid doing too much gut work voiding warranty or something. Only what is required.
3. Some sound damping is required
4. I dont want to spend too much. 30k is the budget. But I may go till 40k. but THAT'S THE LIMIT.
including installation
5. I like clear vocals and nice low bass. But I dont want everyone to hear the sound either. Its just for the people inside the car.
6. Bluetooth sync whenever a Bluetooth enabled phone is in sight.
7. USB
8. DVD support.

Can I get items from online or used and get it installed from local shops? Or wont they allow it?
What is a Mono? :S

JVC KW 700 BT should do the trick. Has all the standard functions and bluetooth and ipod functionality is included. The buttons and the overall feedback is really nice. Another thing is you can set the light which is similar to that of your cabin so it doesn't look out of place. ~12 k

Go to a good installer who would do it without cutting wires.

This should cost around 4 k if you are doing it just for the speakers itself.

Since you want low bass, i would recommend you to get powerbass components for the front. Cost 8 k
For the rears, these would basically act as fillers. Add a JBL Gto 949 if you may or something higher end.

Also this is totally optional but you can add an Amp. Some decent ones start at around 8 to 10 k and you can also add a woofer for around 5 k.

Damping shall take care of this.

I would recommend you to forego this because a good touch screen 2 din system would cost around 20 odd k.



The overall cost would amount to around 35. If you are hell bent on spending around 40 k. I would recommend you to upgrade the components or to go for higher quality damping.
 
Do please tell the advantages of having a separate Amp and Sub. And as i told you its flexible till 40k.

And can i buy these online? source?

Also.. Can i add a GPS into this?

I do plan to have a carputer in this? is it worth it if i am getting this ice and a separate GPS module?
 
A separate Amp would let you listen to songs at a higher volume without distortion as well as add to the overall quality of the sound as opposed to stock.

The separate sub would give a bit more oomph to the sound. This would particularly help when you are looking for a bassy kind of a soundstage.'

And yeah, dont increase your budget unless it matches your requirement. It is not necessary, especially through my experience that the more money you spend, the better sound you get which represents the amount spent.

Infact try to get the soundstage perfect and as per your needs. You can buy them online or go to a proper shop who may have them and get it installed from them. They may even forego the installation charges just because you bought the stuff from them.
 
What you would require is
1. HU (Daul din, according to you) - Cheapest dual din with DVD is Pioneer AVH-X1590DVD - should cost you around 14-15k
2. 6.5" component speakers for the front - Select a component for around 10k
3. Coaxial speakers for the rear - Its mostly a sound filler, you can avoid it for now, if noone travels in the back seat (to save money)
4. 4 channel amplifier (2 channels for the front and 2 channels bridged for sub) - decent ones should be around 10k
5. Sub woofer and enclosure. - need around 6k budget
6. Wiring kit. - around 3k
7. Sound deadening material. - just the four doors alone would cost around 8k

You need to add another 2k or so for installation.

A decent setup with your requirement will cost you a minimum of 55k

I was checking snapdeal and it does have some nice components. Can anyone look into that and see if something is suitable for me.

For ur requirement a focal access series more than enough. Plus they are easy to drive so no need for amplification.
Focal access component front - 5.5k
focal coaxial, dont remember exact model for rear - 4.5k
Damping kit + wiring + installation = ard 4k
Pioneer 2590 BT - 20k

This setup will be perfect for clear vocals, gr8 treble and good lows. As i mentioned earlier, the speakers are easy to drive and doesnt really need an amp.

Rockford fosgate, jbl etc r good speakers but they need a amp to bring out the best in em, not the case with the focal access series.
There are better component speakers that dont require an amp to drive em, but these are 14k + category.

If you're on a budget for speakers then you can try powerbass as well.. they're not over the top but they're decent for the prices you can get in the local market

I read the title and thought, why would you put a stereo in a scooterette that isn't even in production anymore. o_O
 
@m-jeri : As you are on tight budget, its recommend to go stage wise.
1st stage:- Just buy decent HU & front component speakers. Take a visit to local shop & demo JVC AVX, Pioneer HUs. Choose component from Infinity Ref/Kappa or Polk db series. I am sure you never regret it! This all cost you max.20-22k.

Now spare reasonable time (2-4 weeks) with this ICE & listen carefully. Observe what you missed out in this set up. Still you can manage "missed" music by changing setting of cross over in Component speaker & HU mode. Do involve in it.

2nd stage:-
If require then go for next stage including rear component/co-axials with powering 4 ch Amp.

3rd stage:- Adding sub would be last idea as you are on low bass and not wishes boomy sound stage.

Stagewise ICEing sure makes a sense & spending money would be worthful. Cheers!

Edit:- buying ICE online is not good idea for me, don't forget to take demo. Stick to your ears what likes to it while demoing.
 
When i say low bass.. I mean GOOD BASS. :). I want Bass.

How about first stage I go with HU + Front Comp + Damping + Sub? Rear and Amp I will get later if i feel like it. Or how about hooking it up to the existing rear speakers? So that sound filling will be there?
 
is DVD an essential part?

driver wont be the one watching movies. so if you are the one driving, it will be a waste.
DVDs per say are obsolete. get a decent priced tab and attach it to the rear seat/front windshield using tab holders. use the tab for GPS navigation.(sygic for offline navigation. gmaps for online navigation)

also, the components can work without an amp.
as you dont need bass, the components without a sub should suffice.
no amount of demo can produce the same sound stage in your car, so go on gradually increasing the optionals(amp and sub) if you find the SQ not upto expectation.
 
Go with HU+Front Compo+Existing rear speakers first. Live with them for a while.
Damping & powering front compo would be next.
Low bass-Good bass-tight bass-punch bass & so on you realise/judge in above set up.
You need general SQ setup, I think above is sufficient initially with savings bucks! Rest is up to you.
 
I'm not sure what is the grey market prices now.. but when i ICE'd my car(in 2007) around 10-12K i saved by going grey route. If you are not worried too much on warranty you can also compare grey price and decide. I paid around 30K instead of 40+ in grey market which includes(Pio HU 8950UB, components and coaxial from JBL, JBL amp and wiring kit)

+1 to what Doremon said. The Sub will only get true justice once you have the AMP to drive enough through it. While some higher quality HU's come with decent built-in amp, ideally for a SUB install, a dedicated AMP is what will get you the most satisfaction.

Having said that, what you will be pleasantly surprised to know is that if you select good enough Components and a good HU then the bass (preferably with signal processing adjustments from the HU) can be quite satisfactory. When i got my old OHC i initially thought i'd go the full hog and get a SUB+AMP+ what not, but luckily since i invested in the Clarion DXZ785USB .. good component speakers like JBL/Clarion/Powerbass all made a fantastic difference to the original 2000's clarion speakers that were stock with the car!

So ideally, do it in phases & try not to get involved with an out n out over the top enthusiast setup straight away. What you need to spend in order of priority is always with the foundations.. so SUB & AMP are not must haves for you to enjoy a good SQ experience when starting.. they can always be added later at any time.
1. Spend whatever you can on a top notch HU that has what you need in the features and convenience.
2. Spend on good quality cabling (even more if you are getting the damping done since that will require removal of the door panels anyways
3. Spend on good quality Components. In the absence of a dedicated Sub+Amp, your primary experience will come down heavily on components to deliver the output that the HU is capable of generating in terms of audio quality.

save up for a little while and later go for Sub + Amp, by then you'll also have achieved a "burn in" for the deck and the components (keep that in mind.. SQ always tend to get warmer over time for good speakers once they're burnt in.. you no longer feel them "tinny" or requiring higher bass compensation from the HU's adjustments to the sound profile)
