I have been renewing my ICICI policy online for the last few years, and folks doing it would agree on how convenient it is to renew the policy. Well, long story short, I was trying to renew my policy this year again, but I didn't have the policy number handy, just a 'cover note number' from the previous policy. Unsure what to do, and lazy to search for the original policy documents, I was about to give up when I saw the 'Live Chat' button.

"Morons, they should have atleast disabled it during the night" (it's 1:15 AM as I write this). However, just for the heck of it, I clicked on it. And guess what, an agent answered! The chat division is outsourced to liveperson.net, that probably helps! In less than a minute, the person was able to pull my policy number using the cover note number I gave. In another minute's time, I had purchased the policy online using my credit card, and the policy update was sent to my mobile, along with a soft copy of the policy to my email ID (instantly). The hard copy is on the way, but a print out of the soft copy does the job :)

PS: This is not an advertisement post, but just wanted to share a small yet great experience I had shopping online. Wish more sites follow suit. A customer care option at night really helps.

icici lombard is bit expensive than other insurance companies . i have compared the qoutes for my 2 wheeler from bajaj allianz and ICICI . icici was about 200 or 300 rs more. but i guess thts the premium for getting the policy at the click.

The reason I got into ICICI for my 2 wheeler is they accepted to insure my bike which was without insurance for 6 months - I was too lazy to renew it as I was feeling lazy. The previous insurer was a different company, and all other companies I called up were looking for excuses not to take it up. ICICI just wanted me to bring the bike for a photo session :D

After that, the online renewal facility has been hassle free, and I don't mind paying a few extra bucks for this convenience.

However, for the car insurance, which is a very competitive market, I did end up haggling a lot with the various providers - here the advantage is that insurers treat you like a king since the premium amount is handsome. I ended up paying over the phone IVR - still a convenient option compared to writing cheques or going to some office.

Different experience here. Two weeks before my two wheeler policy was going to expire, I tried renewing it online and got an error message that the renewal documents could not be retrieved. I contacted them through live chat and was assured that things would be corrected within a couple of days. But it was not done even after 10 days, although I followed up every alternate day through chat or mobile. Then, when the policy was going to expire the next day, I called them up again, and was told that I would need to personally go to their local office before the policy expiry and get it renewed. Even then, no assurance was given that it would be done definitely.
Fed up, I tried Bajaj Allianz immediately, quoting my existing ICICI policy for renewal. Within 5 minutes I had the renewed policy in hand. The next day I got a call from Bajaj, just to make sure that every thing went smooth. Two days later, the hard copy of the policy was on my desk.
Long story short, I like it when companies make you a call and follow up stuff after a complaint. I hate it when you always have to do the calls. Unfortunately, most companies fall in the 2nd category.

^ You need to notice the irony. I am happy that I was able to BUY something from them. LOL. I don't even bother about whether they would ever consider approving any of my claims :D
