We all like to share images, wallpapers and screenshot of our desktop and other things.. Sharing made possible with the inception of social networking site just like ours Techenclave.. Today many of the people still don't know how to properly share and post images in online forums and websites, and due to this lack of knowledge they post images in improper way which violates forum rules like leaching bandwidth and all..

Therefore its necessary for us to know how to post images in correct sequence and manner to avoid violate rule and in a way so that people can see them easily and effectively without wasting too much bandwidth..

Before we get started we would like to clear few things : -

1. Hotlinking Images/Leaching Bandwidth :
What really is it ? Few people have the tendency to just copy paste thing from one site to another without even thinking .. When you do the same with images you leach the parent site [from where you copy] bandwidth .. What really it does ?

Whenever you visit a page with hotlink images from a non-image hosting site you leach the parent site bandwidth means the parent site has to pay for that extra bandwidth that are used by other site ...

To avoid misuse of other bandwidth we must either use our own server bandwidth or must use free image hosting site...

2, Free Image Host : There are lots of free image hosting sites present.. These site provides you a platform to share you images without any restriction and provides free bandwidth for sharing images..

3. Thumbnails : Thumbnails are the small preview of the images . You can generate thumbnails of the images from the image hosting site and can post them in social networking site.. Posting thumbnails ensures fast viewing of images, quick loading and save your internet bandwidth..

Most of the image hosting site provides you an option to generate thumbnails and some automatically generates then before showing you the full hosted images..

It is viable to post a thumbnail instead of posting a full resolution image...

Getting started... So lets get started and learn how to post images in social networking site without violating forum rules and stealing bandwidth...

1. Resizing Images : Before upload image make sure the image has been re-sized to a great extent.. Avoid upload massive images with higher resolution except wallpapers.. Use image editing software like Photoshop, The Gimp , Paint.net etc . to re-size the image, so that users having low speed net connection can watch them without any problem..

2. Use free image hosting . There are lots of free image host available.. Few of them are recommended by TE can be found here http://www.techenclave.com/site-announcements/image-hosting-guidlines-a-must-read-136550.html .. All these provide useful image storing and sharing options making your life easier..

To upload a image first click on the browse button.. Navigate to the image store in the computer and click on upload ...

3. Sharing Image : Websites above started generates thumbnails codes for several bulletin board like us Tech Enclave.. To post them simply copy past them and post the image..

4. If you want to share bigger thumbnails as one generated by Imgx.org or post a full resolution image, first right click on the hosted image and select "Copy Image Location" .. Now in the post new thread/reply window you will notice a Landscape Icon [show in screenshot below] click it and copy the image address there.. .

If the image posted has link with it the first select the whole posted code [for example
abs
] . Now click on the Earth styled icon the toolbar [shown in screenshot] and paste the URL/Link to the image...

Toolbar.png

Share the image with your friends ..

That's it you have just learned proper way of sharing images in social networking websites like TE.. Please try to post thumbnails, use proper image hosting websites and do not leach bandwidth by hotlinking images from a non image hosting site.. Posting images in proper format not only helps you in fast web page loading but saves bandwidth that can help reduce you Internet/Telephone bills..

So happy posting images :)

Regards

Te Staff

Wonderful... something like this was really needed, with many "56k / dial-up warning" threads going around lately. Many a times I visit TE on my iPhone, it really sucks to view threads with large images on damn EDGE.

Hopefully many people will read this, and follow it. :)

I kinda prefer full sized images  if people can resize them to some 800*600 or something it isnt too bad actually. clicking thumbnails is a pain

ppl can avoid going overboard posting pictures of every nut and screw however

I resize to 640 x 480 if I am posting full scale.... and PM mods before I start a thread with huge images in that format....

Its more of a guide than a guideline. TE does have a rule already existing to the effect that Hot linking is not allowed, isn't it?

Whats the new rule/guideline Now? Am I missing any new rule here?

^^Its only because most of the new member doesn't now hows to post images in correct format and they keep on violating the rule :P

That's why a newbie guide to post thumbnails

Then in that case, it fits into guides section rather than site announcement section isn't it? (there is no new announcement in this post). (Its up to you people to decide as the owners of the site :) )

What would be good is if while posting, it provides a box which links directly to the image host site, then you grab the IMG URL of the desired site, put it in the box and get the image hosting URL immediately,

..then post here with the IMG button.

I have seen that facility in other forums, its very quick and works great.

Yep :P I thought Rave will do it :P

Anyways moved it with a permanent redirect from Announcement sections :)

even if you post full scale images, TE has function and it automatically resizes.. doesnt matter if u post in full or thumbnails.. :S

yes its irritating clicking on thumbnails.

^^Don't you get it :P Posting thumbnails saves bandwidth , though I am using UL net but there are members with limited bandwidth thus posting thumbnails saves money and make page load faster :)

Also the feature you are mentioning is implemented to save space and avoid horizontal scroll bar usage..

If you wanna see images you will click on thumbnails its not that people never click on thumbnails :)
