The theory of ancient Indian television got a huge upgrade today as a BJP Chief Minister claimed that internet and satellite communication existed in the days of Mahabharata. "The Europeans and the Americans may claim that it is theirs, but it is actually our technology," said Biplab Deb, the Chief Minister of Tripura, where BJP captured power from the CPM in the assembly elections held earlier this year.

The description in Mahabharata of the blind king Dhritarashtra getting updates about the battle of Kurukshetra from Sanjay, both sitting in the palace, proves particularly piquant for right-wing thinkers looking for scientific achievements in ancient India. While the epic explained that Sanjay was granted special powers by the sage Vyas, many remain convinced that it proved television existed in ancient India.


Today Mr Deb, while speaking at an event in state capital Agartala on computerisation of the Public Distribution System, took it up a notch. "How can he see through Sanjay's eyes? There was technology available at that time... internet was there, satellite communication was there," Mr Deb said.

Can't believe people listening to this at this time and age! It's like the old joke of 2 boys wanting to prove their village is great - one says, they found telephone wires after deep digging, indicating telephones were there for long time. The other, not wanting to be left behind, says they dug double deep and found nothing, indicating wireless was there for long time.

Guys, this is just diversionary tactic I've observed. These bjp stooges are too good. Whenever government wants to divert matters from issue critical of government, like katua and unnao rapes at present, It orders a bjp minister from another bjp state far away to make a idiotic comment so that media focus goes to it rather than center.

Why there has not been an emergency voting or something? I have never seen a government before which played this bad with the convenience of us, the civilians of this country. I am not only shocked to see that the same govt. expects and might even win the next election! WTAF is going on!

Its the same Donald Trump tactic. Not even new. But this sort of shit catches on. You can divert people's attention from a fire lighting another fire. But you cant hide what was burnt down and that will stay in their heads.

have you seen the poor populations in rural hamlets of India?
since they are totally dependent on middlemen / chamchas / गली का नेता / local goons & such socialites, they are always willing to do away with their vote for anyone who can do any puny favour to these deprived ones.

and i pity Maslow as most of the population here is kept deprived of all basic needs by our rulers, on purpose.

for example, see the toilets made in villages under swachchh bhaarat abhiyaan. they are either unusable or not usable for long duration.

can you estimate the troubles our सरकारी तंत्र will fall in if people get habitual of cleanliness?
