Quoting the wise words from IVG forums:
Recently we've been noticing some very strange activity in the Trading Post. More and more people are using TP to make money and expand their grey market businesses. That's not why the TP exists. We've also got some disturbing complaints of a more serious nature from members. You may have noticed that certain members have been selling sealed/new/unused games, consoles, etc at unrealistically low prices. These could be stolen items or items bought via stolen credit card info. We cannot confirm these accusations, but what we can do is try to stop these guys from using IVG to make money and promote their grey market businesses.

We have a lot of guys who sell Unopened/Sealed/Brand new stuff here. There's no way of saying if they're grey market dealers/someone selling something on behalf of a grey market dealer. I am not too sure if all companies allow OEM products to be sold either. There are those who went as far as forging a bill and by buying second hand products from those who are selling it in a low price and selling it at bit more than the earlier quoted price after a week or 2 just to earn a quick buck, so there's a very good chance of such grey market dealers here.

one can never stop that.

unless you are dealing with just the people you know.

and if you already know people you want to deal with then you may as well just email/call/text them.

There is only one way to control this and is by making it compulsory to produce a proof of purchase or ownership.

I have come across members who have bough items 2nd hand and have deliberately skipped that fact by mentioning how much it was originally bought for. But again that is a matter of caveat unless the buyer asks in detail.

IF you guys are really inclined towards safety then you will have to make a strong point that the site is a forum/community 1st and then a market place by members. Up the limit to 1yr membership on the forum OR employ / enforce 3rd party escrow services on the members below that criteria.

What.. I thought everyone wanted it closed thats why we decided to do the needful :S

If Safin has time to redo iTrader we may consider relaunching it.

There are a few hiccups for sure but that's a small majority compared to the 100s of other smooth deals.

Closing the market section won't be a proper solution to the given problem. If man power is what you want, i can volunteer for that. But market section is necessary for serious buyers like me and others.

PS: major cons if the market section is closed

- less no of new members, because now-a-days many new members are joining this forum for this market section including the hot deal section as well.

Not really.. all new registrations are moderated. The Market-oriented ones are easy to spot and reject : they don't follow instructions and fail the simple question

^ 'What rule at TechEnclave you like the most?' - This is the one which i asked when registering.

wow , whats the answer to that question :D

There is no specific answer :P

A member can quote any rule from the rules page and explain why they like it.

It serves a double purpose of getting new members to read the rules as well.

Eh?? Didn't we have a different question before- Why do you want to join TE? (Or something like that)

Nope, its always been pick your fav rule.

Aww man , don't close the member's market. Got some nice deals off it ! But it needs stricter moderation. Possibly restrict access till you reach 100 posts ?

closing the market is like chucking away a cabinet because a fan does not work. stricter moderation and minimum 100 posts will definitely cut down this problem a lot. Its like a government office, just because a few workers are bad does not necessarily mean closing it will be beneficial. Keep it open guys, and for trades above 10k get some sort of proof from the seller if necessary.

Please dont close
I have myself never done much buying or selling but it should be continued
Some members have got good deals
same stuff which local computer/mobile dealer would have purchased for pea nuts and sold for a premium are sold in manner beneficial to both members
At best we can have a escrow service with a cost given to service provider
can be ebay like system with fees/service charges involved for the same

^^ I second that and the post above. Please don't close down the market. You can probably make it a 'Private' forum which requires specific joining criteria. But don't shut it down completely. :(

If i wanted to cone people then i wouldnt mind making 100posts in 2-3months in multiple profiles/persona and finding bakraas time to time.. one profile gets banned then there is another..ever growing process..

But if there was 1yr limit for direct deals and all younger would have to go via escrow then i wont really be taking so many efforts..

Think like a crook if you want to combat a crook.
