India gets F1 race for 2009 !!

It is official. IOA president Suresh Kalmadi has announced that IOA will be in charge of the even in 2009.
India have been awarded a Formula One Grand Prix race to be held from 2009, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi announced on Thursday.

"We have received a letter in this regard from Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of Formula One. The IOA will be the promoter, the first event of which will be held in 2009," he told a news conference.

It is still unclear as to where teh race will be held.

MKore details are awaited.
 
Seriosly...this should work in our favour...we have been waiting for so long..

Well it was speculated that circuit would be developed somewhere around 50km distance from Mumbai..and another guess was in delhi..!!

Lets hope for the best
 
But why IOA? What happened to the motor racing association?

And don`t they need to check the track first? :P here they`re saying they`ll now start scouting for land :S

The "Motor Racing association" is crappier than the IOA.

They had split into two and all sorts of dirty politics. JK pulled out of racing thanks to them. MAI = Motor racing association of india.
 
well, good news that its coming to India.....

but the bad news is that we still gotta wait for two more years :P
 
heh, to make a seemingly boring F1 a lil more intresting these days, they should have a track in one of the rain infested regions....

AFAIK I havent yet seen a race in heavy rain till now apart from the simulation in F1 games...
 
there were quite a few rainy races last season.

heavy showers and wet tracks make it that much more interesting! :D
 
yupp.. Hungary , Japan...were best... i guess even China was Wet....dont remember it..!!

i dont think it will be feasible to host one in delhi, it would either be hyderabad given his huge ass new airport which is being devoloped or somewhere in the south side only...

Street Race in India..?? Id say closed circuit will be better option..cmon our roads are not to be very proud of (havent visited delhi,hyd yet :p) but roads in bbai and pune...are pretty much wasted...!!

i wonder what shiv sena guys will do to the pit babes if the track was to be built in maharashtra :p

Seriosly a huge issue :p these guys would stage morchas between the race.. Or they might actually dig up the track on race day :p

New Delhi does not currently have a motor racing track, but Kalmadi said the IOA, together with the Indian government would build one near the city. He ruled out a street race.

What about bangy? Its upcoming airport has a bigger capacity than the hyd one :P
