INDIA'S INTERNET USAGE is estimated to grow at a staggering 160% over the next two years, according to a report by eMarketer - a recognised authority when it comes to online business - says India Online. Internet in India currently reaches an estimated about 8.5 per cnet of the population.
The report questions why, when India is one of the most important developing nations for IT, that it continues to lag when it comes to online use, commerce and advertising. India is not quite as large a power in the IT sector as it would appear to be, according to the report.

According to Rediff News, broadband in India is set to take off in a big way, allowing users to link their computers, televisions and telephones with broadband services.

In related news, Force10 Networks is looking to increase its presence in India, reports The Hindu.

India girds loins for Internet boom

if you search there are a few websites that are actually selling products in India.....but i really think that india is picking up and will to a great extent in the coming few years

eh be optimistic about your motherland.
India will pick up and the bandwdth rev is happening slowly.
its just a little wait game till TRAI says 512 kbps is must.

TRAI had said so many things.. but has that been achieved yet?? what happened to the unbundling of the last mile??

not until you have competitors eating up your share of the pie would you get up and add more spice to it !!

which mtnl and bsnl both dont seem like doing.... i mean whats the point of using adsl2+ technology when the max bandwidth your offering to your home users is only 512 kbps.. that too with sadistic 1gb limits.. people cry and laugh over my plight all at the same time when i tell them abt my connection!!

In UK adsl2+ is big..! but there they are given full 24mpbs speeds!!

so much for being called the iT hub .!! bah! ****ing joke!

I don't really care whether it picks up or not. What i want to see is companies offering unlimited downloads for 1Mbps connections and higher without charging too much. This download limit thingi is crap. Now what's the point of having a broadband if you impose a download limit?? It ruins the overall experience.

256 Kbps for Rs 1000 a month is a bloody joke. Everywhere in the world, even in an expensive country like the UK, you get unlimited 10 mbps Adsl2 for £14 a month. And £14 is like pocket change here for even the poorest people.

Rs 1000 is quite a bit of money in terms of Indian rupee buying power for the people back in India. It needs go to down to something like Rs 250-300/ month for 1 Mbps speeds.
