Also one more thing....

I wanted to purchase a speaker (i want it to be very cheap say between 150 to 400 rs)....what is my best choice in this range???????

Anxiously awaiting for ur replies as will then only go ahead and upgrade my RAM as well as purchase speaker....

Hmm, I think 1 GB should be more than enough as any games wont work on your laptop so 2 GB is useless. Not sure about the pricing and is it SD or DDR RAM ?

Go for something in the Creative SBS series priced between 350-700.

What do you use your laptop for? what kind of applications do you run on it? That is the sole factor that helps you decide what amnt of RAM is enough for you..

"mm, I think 1 GB should be more than enough as any games wont work on your laptop"

plz clarify why games WONT work on my laptop???????

"is it SD or DDR RAM ?"

i dont know....can u plz say me how to find that out from laptop itself????

"What do you use your laptop for? what kind of applications do you run on it?"

mainly various types of accounting and tax software like peachtree / quickbook /tally /turbo tax etc.......

"Doe ur laptop even support that much RAM?
Check it out, some don't support 2G especially slightly older ones."

how can i find that out ???? (i lost its manual)

Thanks so so much for replying to my queries........

its truly appreciated....

For that Kind of work an additional 1GB RAM is more than enough, 2GB will be waset of money.

I think that laptop comes with ati mobility 7500 64MB.
That is ok to play old games but definitely not newer one.
and it supports Max 1GB. And has only 1 free memory slot as your 256MB would be using 1. Total 2 slots only.
So make sure you get single sodimm stick and i think max available is 512MB.

I agree with Funky, since your laptop has a very old GPU you cannot play new games and you cannot upgrade the GPU as well. 1 GB RAM should be perfect for you.

Though sunandoghosh do check your budget 256MB of Laptop memory will cost you about 4k, that means almost 14-16k for 1GB

Come On man....2 gb RAM is a Waste...... take 1 GB and see ......if ya want more then....we cant stop ya.
And Games on the laptop will not have the same effect as the comp...and the laptop will be too hot to handle....
I use laptops on business trips and i got a Dell.......it is so hot even if i watch Movies and slowly, the battery goes down.

thanks so much to everyone many many times for taking time to reply... :)

my god

is there any alternative (other than NOT upgrading to 512 mb ram  )

i really want more speed now...

any idea guys...

thanks lot :O

RAM all of sudden wont give ya speed.
It will help reduce the amount of paging you may be needing now. May be stuttering in games will be reduces. But it wont suddenly increase the fram rate in games. Thats not what RAM does.
So dont expet that from RAM upgrade.
It will just smooth things down and give nice feeling to the system.
If you want more speed then get the new laptop.
