I don't know if you've noticed, but one funny thing I saw during the briefing was that when Maj Gen S.S. Sharda was ending it, he invited for a cup of tea and I don't think that was a coincidence

One thing I quite can't wrap my mind head around is, why didn't they release the info on how many jets they hit? It's understandable they are reluctant to admit the number of jets we lost if any. But the number of their jets we hit -- that is not going to be a secret to the enemy. They know. The enemy also knows. So why not tell the public? Even if the debris is not on our side of the border, they can at least tell us how many, since they already said we did hit some.

Does anyone have a theory or a possible explanation of why they are not speaking it out plainly?

If it’s an F16, which most likely is, US will not be very happy about it. We don’t want to upset US for sure, with an evolving situation.
It's not like we invited USA to give those F16s to our enemy. Since they did and now they are flying against us, do we think USA expects us to just give up fighting them? Bullsh*t! If that's the reason, I would lose all respect for this govt. But I don't think that's a probable reason.

Parses some of the finer points and implications of the chiefs briefings

Video above says 5-7% of their airforce

None

This isn't something we can hide especially if we lost a pilot

And I think I heard earlier one of the airforce people saying all jets returned without any loss

And the message is conveyed to the right people.

No point as its easy for the other side to deny and then what do you do. Not only that will then claim the same against you.

When you can demonstrate without deniability then you make it public like the strikes we carried out. Nobody questioned them unlike the last time.

The pakis have won in their perception and we in ours, putting out numbers at this point of time won't help with calming down the public sentiment on either side and defuse the situation.
Going by today's press conference though, it does seem like we've lost some aircraft.

That's not what I meant. We will obviously fight against F16, but to put it out in wild, that we fell them down, will be a dent for them.

Check what happened to Dassualt share price once Rafale debris images started showing up.

If F16 is lost, USA already know it, shouldn't bade well for Pak.
As for Rafale jets, India, French, major powers in west already may be aware.
Not declaring the whole picture probably because internal liaison between countries might be already going on regarding pilots, etc., don't want to bring in power imbalance through skew in public opinion. aka picture abhi bhi baaki hai...!

It not us that the US will be upset at.

Those F16s are meant for counter terror operations and not offensive operations against India. A point that most Indians seem to forget

We don't have to say anything because the Paks are already in the soup about it

"We are in a combat scenario, and losses are part of combat. As for the details – what could have been lost, how many platforms – if I comment on anything, it will only benefit the adversary."
We definitely lost a few rafales. This quest may not have been a success if looked at from an economic pov.

We may never gain composure or confidence in international arena unless we win some conflicts at least, leave alone war.
Consider what we can economically gain after the war than not doing a war and fail anyways.
If one think about economic loses, cannot go for a war ever and Pak will always stay above water like hollow murk.

We lose planes in peace time as well. Nobody loses sleep over that.

But they're right. You've got to be prepared to lose some if you want to win. We can afford to replace them

yeah but its pretty humiliating when you compare the cost of rafale with those chinese jets.

We don't know what are damages from Pak side, including F16, Chinese jets, their nuclear facilities, etc. (Army spoke-person already said terrorist state lost few 'advanced planes', not categorically confirming those are 4th gen fighters).
As mentioned in above post, if NNSA Beach King is roaming around, something is cooking.
The whole IMF loans given, clandestine monies given by USA, etc. might come at a cost in the end.

There is no friends for India because we never showed we are worth taken side of.
Win few conflicts and things will definitely change.
Of course, we have to be internally strong in all facets before that, but we have to make some serious attempts now.
