AIDW material, IMO :)
Heh how come anyone can vote for a party that aligns with the left is beyond me. I yet say minimum criteria for voting should be a graduation degree, and yeah all you techies here go vote next time around...:@

I vote, have been doing so since I was legally able to :)
Market is down bro.. crashed.. idiots aren't fixing the supply side inefficiencies..

I always vote for the independent candidates Ralf Nader FTW :P

back on topic - aren't these two unrelated topics? The PM is threatening to quit if the nuke deal doesn't go through isn't he?

Actually related on a long shot, one of the major reasons for the increase in inflation is rise in fuel cost (not our domestic cost) but frm govt kitties, and maximum usage of fuel is not automobiles but for power generation. Nuclear power would make that redundant...

And why would anyone vote for left is beyond reason....

Wheres Nikhil?? He can fix the inflation for the congress I suppose

I can!! Make me ruler of this country and give me 10 years!!

Any single person with brains can do a better job than these brain dead @$$***** trying to loot the country for the past 60 years.

What have you been drinking Nikhil?? You talking such things against ur fav. madam gandhi? :O. Somebody pinch me.

I have no idea why you think I am in love the Congress. You keep talking about it, but I have no clue. Anyone who knows me knows that I hate all these POS. I want to use the choicest, filthiest words to describe them. Unfortunately, that will just get a ban from TE and nothing else will happen.

The prime minister and Chairman of the planning commission (Montek singh) are among the best people a country's economy can get. But there is no support from the states or from the congress' own ministers most of whom I am sure are least bothered and at sea about the situation (with the kind of education they have,no surprise). The left on the other hand only knows to stick to its so called 'Ideology'.Half the sessions in parliament end up in walkouts and slogan shouting. So nothing of real importance is ever discussed.

Its easy to blame it all on the PM, I'm still convinced he is one of the better PMs we've had for some time, but the rest of the govt just sucks, its not really his fault.

The current prime minister is good as a financial minister. There is no doubt regarding his tenure as finance minister during the 90s. He did do a lot of things for the country. But it ends there. As the PM he is just a puppet. No power, no discretion. Just a faithful follower of the "supreme ruler" of the Congress.

^^ I'd bet most people here would like to do the same.....just that they would probably enjoy their day off when india goes to poll next year....... by the way talking about communists, here is an interesting blog that makes a few startling claims : CIA reveals High Treason by Indian Communists - Will Mssrs Basu, Karat and Yechury Respond ? | Offstumped

here's a portion of the text:

HK Surjeet influenced by Russia to setup an underground organization

CPI did proceed to recruit a secret organization within the Indian Army

China Russia insisted that the CPI must develop a standby apparatus capable of armed resistance, while intensifying penetration of Indian Military forces.

With the PLA now present along the Indian Border the Indian Party had a channel of support for Armed Operations and a potential liberator in the event of mass uprisings - 13 Sept 1959

4 powerful radio sets had been installed in the office of the China Review in Calcutta to listen to broadcasts from Peking

Chinese Financial Subsidies to sections of the CPI particularly the left faction strongholds in West Bengal

a foreign supply base was now available for the underground organizations with Chinese occupation of Tibet and other frontier areas

letter asking for collaboration in Indian underground organization work aimed at an eventual revolution, because China has a border with India and can provide arms and supplies

Also Jaipal Singh, head of the illegal organization within the Indian Army decided to reactivate his organization in May 1961 following the hard left faction gaining control of the party

Although the facts mentioned are about events more than 45 years past, it won't be illogical to assume that the current generation of the communists are probably recieving "orders" from outside the borders. That would explain a lot about their attitude towards the nuke deal, and more importantly it would explain why they seem to be blocking almost every single reform that the government tries to bring in.

Inflation is just a symptom of the obvious fact that we as a nation are focussing too little on infrastructure and supply. India would have to have large scale infrastructure reforms upto the village levels, else this small phase of high growth that we saw over the past few years would be looked at as just a "bubble" in the future.

I was hearing a report on ndtv.......they showed with increase of 3 buks on diesel the total cost of increase in commodities should be not more than 25 to 75 paise per kg......but contrary to that producer hike the rate of commodities to 3 to 6 buks per kg.....

Actually the govt did very less in its first 3 years..when it had to deliver...at that time only rbi had given a report of huge hike in inflation....at that time only the govt should have reduced the subsidies.....now they taking extreme steps and it look like a very dire one.....if they have increased petrol prices 25 paise a month from start of their govt and same about 5 buks for lpg..atleast ppl shd have taken precaution and it wont have face such stuffs...

TBH this all was coming... Dr. Manmohan Singh should have been a FM and not PM from the start...he was made PM so that sikh community feels happy plus govt. can be run by sonia indirectly so that other parties don't oppose to it... its all coming out now......

Brown stuff hitting the fan...

Nothing ever got done by this administration cos of who they allied with.

Let that be a good lesson to anyone in the future ;)

I don't blame the govt. It's a global phenomenon. Rising oil prices fuelled by ever increasing demand from India and China + artificially created demand whenever there is unrest in Nigeria, dirty politics in Venezuela, people investing in oil stocks etc. Protests have been reported in Nepal, France, Spain, Brazil..almost all continents. There is no free lunch. Either the govt or the people have to shoulder the excess burden. The govt has done all it can for long enough now.

Also, companies are irrationally hiking prices of processed goods in order to preserve their already inflated profit margins in a relatively long running, economically healthy India. I don't think the govt can control this. Manufacturers should show some restraint.

W.r.t. the govt being bad, I think it's the best govt one could ask for w.r.t economic issues. They've had to calculate their every move and make right decisions for the people. Their governance is why we have had the economic success so far rather than focusing on silly issues. The left is like an opposition within the govt. Hell, the BJP just has to sit back and watch the fun. I don't think an early election would do anything for the inflation figures.

Now, w.r.t the nuclear deal, I also don't understand the Left's position on this deal. I think it's their inherent distrust in the U.S. and not so much the deal itself. Till now, they've not pinpointed what their problem is with the deal. (They keep saying that they have an issue with certain wordings and sections of the deal but never really identifying what they are. Typical old school mentality. Focus on the small things and never see the big picture.)

We really should be looking at the fact that we have woefully inadequate power generation capability in our country coupled with the fact that the demand is set to double in the next 15-20 years. We are being denied access to nuclear fuel along with nuclear technologies. This deal is good from the point of civilian benefit.
