Guys, Coming to intel's dual core (AMD aficionados pipe down :bleh: )

How much do these retail for?? Can they also OC? Are their boards good and what about costs? The 945 a good chipset?

I have a 925X with a 660 and was thinking of swapping for a 830 or something with a 945/955....will waiting for 975 cause prices of these 2 (945/955)to fall any?

I have 512x2 DDR2 667 corsair (normal), that'll work fine right??
X800XT worth going for X850XT or not??

board should be asus or msi only....
Thanks

The 945/955 chipset are nice.

Here are few motherboards based on 945 -
Asus P5LD2-VM-UAYZ Motherboard = Rs. 7200
Gigabyte GA-81945G Pro = Rs. 9675

Here are few motherboards based on 955 -
Foxconn 955X7AA Motherboard = Rs. 9425
Gigabyte GA-81955X Royal = Rs. 17950

Here are few based on NVIDIA nforce 4 SLI which support Dual Core -
MSI P4N SLI Motherboard = Rs. 13000
MSI P4N Diamond Motherboard = Rs. 17500

These are November 2005 Prices.

Sorry for the Gigabyte boards but they are good too.

And Zebronics distributes Foxconn too I think.;)

Thanks for the info.....

Part of it is inaccurate though....way..way inaccurate.. I am sure, but are you :P

Ok, The Pentium D 820, is the only 1 available in Mumbai.

It retails around 15-17k.

Trust me, it overclocks like a monster.

Btw, id suggest, you go for a 820, rather than a 830. As they overclock to the same limit, 3.73 Ghz.

I cant push mine any further.

Corsair's DDR2 Ram is absolutely awesome.

See how much ive pushed my DDR2-533. :).

I can push it more, but, im ok with it now.

freakin amazing the price... I am getting a pentium D820 for some 12.5 to 12.8K....
but I don't OC.....at least not aggressively..

Also how many fps less will I be with one o these, noticable frame drop @ high settings??
how much is multi tasking on a PD slower than on an X2?

i dunno if you'll believe me.. i have a northwood i gave it 2 my friend with intel original 845gbv2 mobo.. northwood typical 2.66 ghz with 512 cache i have only 128 ram OMG THE MACHINE WAS ****ING FAST AT ANYTIME i used to use around 30 to 40 windows without glitches :( got huge sandra scores too i miss it .
in case of intel i believe the perfect real world compatibility between a specific motherboard and a spefici processor varies slightly .. and if it matches nothing like that.
i still regret about the northwood i didnt sold him i will take it back as hes out of here now ..soner or later. :)

get the wifi version of 955 or 975 mobo :D

If your not going to OC.

The Pentium D is useless. Trust me. I own 1.

I got like almost 50% performance boost in everything.

PI Times from 48 at Stock, dropped to 36. (PI Times with Proccy at Stock and RAM OC'ed were 44-45, cant remember)

Load Times in CS Source, reduced by half. And they still take a hell of a lot of time...

Guys i got a dealer which is prepared to sell me the x2 4200+ for 15.3k !!!!!

and that too with 3 years warranty and the tax invoice !!!!

Awesome aint it ????

I'm Goin IN

I meant this for u since u own one. say an OC with a hyper 48...from 2.8 to say 3 gigs or 3.2 max...will it be sufficient..

Gaming is not a no. 1 priority...but I get freakin screwed for time, and would like to burn DVD's while watching one, or maybe encode something while listening to MP3's...

Gaming fps mean little to me, and I don't get much time for benchies and when I do well...I don't (benchy)...
Since I still plan for a good ATI card (X1800XT, X1900XT) but may use an X850XT for awhile (;) ) normal 1024 @ high settings gaming should be OK...

I also do vid encoding, will DC help here??

thanks and if possi pls reply to each query (askin a lot of u I know :P )

D830 shows enhanced speedstep, D820 doesn't... Any other differences between the 2???

If you're setting up a whole new rig, just get an AMD Athlon X2 3800+. Goldenfrag has to grease the core once a month which tells me it's not a good idea getting a Pentium D.

But he's doing 3.7 Ghz, I plan 2.8, maybe 3 after a year or so.....

And will get the best cooling and grease ;) in case I plan any shenanigans (and insurance)...

OK got it... D820 doesn't have ESS bcoz the min mult for prescott's is 14 and thats what its running @ (200*14)...
