PC Peripherals Installing 800Mhz RAM with 667 ones....

I bought a 800MHz Kingston RAM rated at 1.8V. After installing, I could not boot into windows. It hangs right after Windows loading screen and before monitor turns off and cursor appears...

This has to be some sort of a mismatch. I would like to know if there's any way to circumvent this and actually get the new RAM working along with two 667MHz RAM I already have.

I use Windows XP SP2 and rest of my rig is as given in signature. Sorry for being so careless. I should have known better and taken advice before the purchase :)

Test the new RAM in another system --- to atleast rule out DoA. Else your board could have a problem with mismatched DIMMs. Bios update..?
 
Spec wise, both sticks are the same. So it has be a flaky module, which you need to check for.

BTW, I have 3GB of system memory, comprising a mix of 667Mhz & 800Mhz sticks.
 
even i had used a set of 1gb 533mhz+667mhz+800mhz worked fine on biostar mobo, but drawback was all ram stciks came down to a speed of 533mhz :bleh:
 
I think the issue could be that you're using 3 sticks of RAM. I'm using a combo of 667 and 800mhz RAM 512mb+512mb+1gb+1gb with no issues.
 
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do anything till next week end:(

Before checking anything else, I would make sure that the new RAM is infact working. That seems logical.
1) Try 800Hz alone in one of the working slots(slots in which the old RAMs worked fine)
If found fine, try below steps:

2) Insert all three RAMs and check their latency timings(in BIOS?). Read somewhere that a mismatch or unsupported latency may lead to instability.

3) Manually set new RAM to run at 667 as suggested by nitant/ronit. I suppose this is done in BIOS. Does this step involve any risk - like frying my MB :D

I'll post back as soon as I have an update.
 
I checked BIOS and I din't find anything there to set RAM speed manually. Its AMIBIOS- Version:0112; Build date:21/07/06. Do I have to flash it? How do I do it? After flashing, will I get an option to set RAM speed?
