Installing XP on external hard disk using PowerISO

I have a bit of situation.
My main computer is not booting up (I messed up by installing routerOS on it) so I cannot boot from it
My laptop's cd writer does not work.
I just purchased Seagate 500gb External HD.
Could I install Windows XP on it using powerISO from the laptop and then use it to boot the main computer and hence access my internal HD?

i dont think so...its doubtful....since the external will act like USB Mass Storage device instead of a SATA or IDE HD...which is wot is needed in this scenario....still have u tried to google this info...????????? try below...but i still think it would b difficult....

hmmm u can do it.... all u need to check ya laptop BIOS .....support USB boot priority ..i mean see ya BIOS boot option..if that support USB boot...then then select it and boot it after connecting ya USB drive then boot ya laptop and use like normal ...but ya os will b in USB drive.....
