Ok to clarify, we are thinking of changing the name of the site to something more easy to communicate, remember and recall. Everyone must have come across the following communication at least once..

TE user: You should visit techenclave and post your query to get good answers/recommendations
Other fellow: tech what?
TE user: techenclave, tech ee en cee ell aay we ee, techenclave
Other fellow: oh, ok
Other fellow (after a week): what was that tech site again?

Now coming to the name itself. We though that InstantGeek in itself is a catchy and easy to remember name. General users come here and get inputs from us geeks and log off happy. :)

So from the current reaction we can see that most of you might not be happy with the name. Though 10-20 people hardly represent a useful sample. Consequently we are open to suggestions and you can pour in your name choices. The name should be easy to spell and remember and the domain name should be available.

Baniye geek 5 minute mein.

Login kijiye instant geek par.
Yep, that is the explicit message that is getting conveyed here.

Threads loosing sticky and now thread titles changing, what is going on here?

Managing stickys and thread title according to the needs is the responsibility of the mods, so we should not be complaining about that.

Yes. This has happened many times. 3-4 friends that I've got here had a tough time remembering what it was. One of them heard the name of the site is "TechUncle" and off he went to this website Tech Uncle where he tried searching for the search box for almost 10-15 minutes.

I like the sound of 'Instant Geek' here. Although, I think, maybe you could have invited others to pitch in a new name!

On a serious note: techtalk.com ?

But this points to some IBM website, don't know why.

Other option: techgyaan (don't like personally but still an option)

A name with a word in a regional language will not serve well, IMO.. Gyaan may be spelt in different ways by people who speak Hindi, and will not be understood by those who aren't aware of the word. A combo of "simple" English words would be the best way to go about. But, most of the domain names in such combos might have been already taken.

And we would be better off avoiding the word tech. Its a common word and every domain would be taken.

In short what you mean to say is that you are now looking to target audience who have no knowledge to come here solve problems and leave.?

Whatever you do.. dont let it start with an 'i'.. Pls
Hate the cupertino based company. Worse, apple might one day look towards the site for potential ad campaign or a lawsuit.. 'i' is ours u see.. :|

That is like courting disaster. Avoiding tech for a Tech site?
Just like people would confirm techenclave again after a week or so.. this time they ll ask flatly the first time itself.. where is tech in that. Also while googling tech forums, it might not come up as a very technically inclined site?

First part of your post is not a valid reason. Second is, but did you read the last few words of my post. Try to find a tech domain.

First one was obv not a reason. :P

Yea i did read your post fully.. but still would like to req the tech thing be retained. The idea of not being able to find a domain looked like an established thought.. hence i thought about mentioning that tech word be retained (if possible ie)

I refer TechEnclave to my friends as TE, no confusion. Even if you guys change the domain name, plz don't change the title - let it be TechEnclave.

how about Geekenclave, Geekshout, Geekextreme, Geekfusion, Instageek :) ...

InstantGeek sounds really lame (not that my suggestions are not :P )...

Admin has a point here. IMO, "TechEnclave" sounds more "professional" whereas "InstantGeek" is more easy to remember.

Either one is fine with me but "InstantGeek.com" would definitely be more easy to remember for newbies. :)

Thanks for shedding light, no objection with how things are handled just that we should be intimated on the due proceedings if possible. =]

Nothing wrong with the name. Quite decent actually and fewer chances of someone who is not very comfortable with English getting the spelling wrong. Most people will still refer to it as TE and the redirects will still be around.

Hopefully you guys already bought www.instantgeek.com before trying this? :P

Do you guys already have the domain instantgeeks.com? Looks like it was registered way back in 2006.
