Google is smart enough to catch 301 strategies, but what about others? Backlinks will be dead unless you have set permanent 301 redirection to new domain. Now the question, for how long are you going to keep this top domain level redirection? forever? If yes, then what's the point of changing the name?

i hope you know how 301 redirects work. It is used for permanent redirection of domain.

The HTTP response status code 301 Moved Permanently is used for permanent redirection, meaning current links or records using the URL that the 301 Moved Permanently response is received for should be updated to the new URL provided in the Location field of the response.
Google recommends using a 301 redirect to change the URL of a page as it is shown in search engine results.[1]

301 is a web standard and every search engine implements it.

At least till 2017 when the domain name expires. I doubt that the old backlinks would be valid then.

Not sure how you are relating a domain redirect to the name change. The domain name in the URL bar of the browser should always match the name of the site.
 
I know that the decision is made and there is nothing we can do, but wanted to point out that the view count is NOT unique visitors. I'll miss you Techenclave. :(
 
I understand 'ghantaa' about all this forum/website/SEO stuff but i think TE is kinda a known name now. So i do not understand how a name change helps. Then again i might be mistaken.
I tried reading older posts, as i always do by practice, before commenting in a thread and i don't think i understood much.

BTW, where does TE stand amongst Technology Forums based in India?
As often we see someone or the other claim to be #1 ?

P.S. thank you for changing back the name at the top to TE, at least till you'll have decided/finalised whatever? :)

Millions of people watch the news everyday, only a few react. Others either dont care or want others to react, however small the issue may be. I know Im powerless in this case, but just saying. If the name change is decided it will be changed, there is nothing I or the others can do, you know we can just walk out though that is the maximum we can do, as TE is TE even if its changed to IG or whatever lame name. :( No offense.

Not really a fair comparison between TE and TDF considering that TD is a full fledged site first and a forum later. Apples to Oranges till you have a breakup of their forum vs site traffic trend.

Anyway not that it all matters as long as we are going in the right direction in terms of member activity and forum content.

Looks like there is no definite reason or explanation being given, change seems to be based on the opinions of mods. Anyway, good luck to you guys, Instant geeks sounds way too silly for me.
 
Great! :yahoo: Its now to change back the name in the Terra Nova and Optimal themes back to Techenclave. :)
 
Personally i find IVG to be a better and friendly place than TE pull out Market Section from TE and you might see ghost town
