CPU/Mobo Intel Core2 Duo or Quad???

i have been hearing some things about the quad. right now i am running on 1.86 duo, and i am thinking of either upgrading to a faster duo, or going quad, i was just wondering if i could get some insight on the pros and cons, and which some of you would suggest.

IMO, if u can, wait till penryn or phenom comes out otherwise Quad 6600 is a no brainer.

P.S. Get a good motherboard and Overclock ur processor, which means u'll have faster duo ;), you have a good ram as well why waste them on a intel board. Get a P35 chipset based motherboard which can support penryn when it comes out.

Better wait for the Penryns and Phenoms with them right around the corner it would be a lil skeptic to go for current proc, besides over clock your baby to 2.4 and that would hold u longer for the newgens to come.

well if u want it "now" then Q6600, dont go for yet another C2D, Gaming or not.

if your in to 3d and rendering stuff go for quad or stick with a C2D its more than enuf for current gen gaming or like saiyan said wait for phenom or Penryns

a quad is no good for gaming just waste of money if not used for proper purpose

i am getting a great deal on a Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6700 processor, Intel® Desktop Board DG33TL Media Series, and Windows Vista* Home Premium Edition. But i am really only using my pc for gaming, and i am already running ultimate vista. would you suggest i buy and resell the stuff and buy a better mobo and core2duo?

^ You might as well mention what deal you're getting buddy. Specially Q6700?

I wouldn't mind going for the combo Q6700+DG33TL board. Not that I like that board, but one of my friend is looking for cheap board for his E6550 and I can gift this board to him and keep proccy for myself.

Quad All the way. all modern games are multi-core optimized, hence you get a great performance boost when when a quad is present. benchmarks have shown that a Q6600 at 2.4GHz is actually faster than a C2D at 4GHz.

DG33 doesn't have overclocking options rite?

Don't think so. Budget boards hardly ever come with overclocking options, especially the Intel Reference ones.

but the DG33 is a stable board no? should i opt for another mobo to overclock?

Certainly. boards based on 650i chipset would be a good choice. especially if you're on a limited budget.

You are getting a great deal coz the newer chips will be better.:p
Which performance minded chap is gonna buy these when Penryn is out in a couple fo months!! ;)
Imho, hold your horses.:)
For people already on C2D or AM2 and wanting to upgrade, Penryn is the way to go unless they need more horsepower, err... Ghz for professional purposes. :cool2:

pssst... You already have great RAM. :thumb:
If you have a good psu, a good aftermarket cpu cooler and had a mobo with decent overclocking options, you would have been at 3Ghz on that same chip and not asking this question. :p

see man dont confuse urself, as Bikey said Hold your Fort, for a month or two and u can go for penryns. they would be a much better choice than any c2d and quad offerings now. also save some more money and get a better mobo and AMC and a Good GFX and a Decent PSU . u are all set for 2008.

See my siggy below, my suggestion would be to buy a overclocking board for now, maybe a xfx 650i for around 5k and use the hidden potential of your E6300, getting up to 3.0-3.3 Ghz would be a childs play, if you take suggestion from this forum or ask any of the TEite in your city to help you out. This would give you better performance than any of the high end duos @ stock. And of course you can upgrade at a later stage to penryn or a quad.

What's wrong with MSI? I've had a lot of positive experiences with them so I wouldn't blatantly advise against MSI as a brand... every company does have bad boards, or batches of bad boards ;)

relaxedcrazyman, you might want to consider getting yourself an Abit IP35-E - a great value board with decent overclocking ability too.
