Graphic Cards Intel DG31PR + ATI RADEON HD5570 - Good combination?

Hello all,
Am a casual/occasional gamer and play most of the games at 1024*768 (medium settings). Its a happy story till i tried the latest games. I couldnt even able to open some of the games to lower its settings. So, i decided to buy a mediocre graphic card [ATI RADEON 5570 1GB] from flipkart. I was taken aback when i saw the Bus-standard of HD5570 is "Pci express 2.1x16".
The reason being is my mobo. DG31PR has 'Pci express slot of 2.0'.

My questions are:
1. Will the Pci2.1 card fit into my pci2.0 slot of DG31PR.
2. Whether the DDR3 of HD5570 is anywhere related to my Dynet 2GB RAM?

Here is my config:

  • Viewsonic VA1716W monitor
  • Dynet DDR2 RAM 2GB
  • Intel DG31PR Mobo
  • Intel core 2 Duo @2.53GHz
  • Seagate Barracuda 1TB + 250GB

As i said, am a casual gamer. So, i wont be interested in High/Ultra-high cards and its PSU upgrade.
If u have any other card that satisfies my need below 3.5k, do suggest.
 
PCI-E specs are backward compliant so you can use the 2.1 card in a 2.0 slot. The physical dimension of the slot is same but only the electronic spec is different providing more bandwidth with each spec upgrade...

DDR3 RAM on the GPU is specifically for gpu use only. It reduces the burden on the system RAM....

A new HD5570 is a good choice for your requirement but I would advice you to get a second hand card since you can get much powerful cards for cheaper...
 
^.. Its not a question of fit since you can install any PCI-E card, that's the beauty of PCI-E that its backward compatible... Heck you can even install GTX 680 (PCI-E 3.0) card on a PCI-E 2.0 slot...

All it really bogs down to is your budget & what is the rest of your PC components so that the performance balances out.

But I think the next logical upgrade from a HD5570 should be a HD6670. If you can stretch your budget to 5k then its better to get HD6670 as well.

In that case go for the AMD HD 6670 1GB DDR3 ~4900/- INR, the price difference between the two is barely ~500/- and the HD 6670 is a better card and features a more updated hardware standard OUTPUT connector(s). And please do not go by the prices of flipkart on an average they are ~500/- --> 1500/- more expensive than the same cards on a dedicated hardware site like --

Get a 6570 instead - has a better HD decoder and supports MVC. Costs barely a few hundred more. I got mine for 4100 for my HTPC.

SMC International's Gigabyte GV-R667D3-1GI @ Rs.4,400/- seems a very good offer for me. Will this card needs any external power connectors or simply uses the power derived from pci-e slot?
 
^.. No power connector is required for HD6670 & its any day more powerful then HD6570 but only by a small margin...
 
If you want a decent gaming card, look for the GDDR5 version for sure. The DDR3 version that is more common isn't much faster than the 6570.

Else extend your budget a bit and get the 7750. Its far faster than either and is almost as fast as a 6770.

It all depends on how long you want this upgrade to last. If you want to play most current generation titles with decent settings on your monitor, go for the --
AMD HD 6770 ~6200/- OR
AMD HD 7750 ~6500/-

In both these cases I will advise you to upgrade your SMPS to a Corsair CX V2430W ~2600/-.

If you are not really looking for great details and just about want your RIG to run-the-title [sans graphics fidelity] then even a HD 6670 will do just fine.

After some analysis, i'm deciding on HD6670.
But there are many brands offering HD6670 in DDR3 category - Gigabyte, Sapphire, (Powercolor - though this is not my option)

I look for Gigabyte, as it is factory-overclocked. Will it make any difference over Sapphire HD6670?
Both are around 4.5k, as this is all i can spend for some casual gaming.

Any suggestions, buddiez? :scared14:

^... DDR5 versions of previous gen cards (6670 here) would be extremely hard to get.

OC'ed version would have better cooler & slightly better performance...
 
Overclocking a GPU is very easy . So it does not matter much whether you buy factory overclocked or regular one . My personnal advice would be sapphire one @ 4.4k(If you live in delhi)

I just surfed thro the net and found a HD6670 under the powercolor brand too. Reviews are speaking high of its cooling capacity over other brands.
Confusing again- Yet, i've boiled down to my final options
1. Sapphire HD 6670 or
2. Gigabyte HD 6670 (OC) or3. Powercolor HD 6670.

What to choose?

Out of the three brands that you have short-listed Sapphire and Powercolor are board members for AMD Graphics division and they develop exclusive AMD cards [HIS is also in this same rut]. GIGABYTE is the only third-party company that produces card for both sides.

Keeping all factors such as after-sales and availability in mind I would suggest buying in this order --
Stick to Sapphire over all others, second option is GIGABYTE and the tail is covered by Powercolor.

This because I am not aware of Powercolor RMA in India, I did own a Powercolor X700 and it served me well for 3 years [2006 -->2009].
