The CPU works great but I think the temperatures are way too high for an Intel chip. The results are as follows:

Minimum - 52c ; Max. - 57c WHILE IN IDLE STATE

In stress testing by Everest the temp goes upto 70. Is this normal for E8x00 series?

I did apply a local thermal paste but had to remove the CPU after that as PC was not booting and have heard that effect of such pastes vanishes once you detach the heatsink from processor. Do I need to apply it again?

The HSF is seated properly and nothing is wrong with my cabby as temp. of GPU and my old E2160 are fine.

Well, I already have 3 case fans attached; just did a load test and the temperatures were running around 90c :( I think something is wrong with the damn heatsink. I have an XFX 630i and placing heatsink is really a big PITA in it!

yeah, there's ur problem.. The 630i chipset..

The temperature sensors are not accurate with the nvidia 6xx chipset motherboards and the newer 45nm processors... A couple of other people had the same issue..

Guess wat? I've got the same problem too, with an e8400 on my Asus P5N-E SLi(650i chipset) motherboard..

It'll auto shutdown at 100+ degrees. The tjunction on the e8xxx processors is 100 degrees.

So you mean to say even though it shows the temp. as 60 or 70, it's not really that high in real but the PC will still shut down if it reaches upto 100?

Is there any option by which we can disable that auto shutdown?

why you want to disable auto shutdown... its there to keep your system safe.
temps are too high. my temps are 32 idle and 44 maxx. on stock cooler.
but i have huge size cabinet and proper airflow. total of 5 fans :)

think how to reduce the temp rather than searching for option to disable auto shutdown.

Get a small Syringe of Tuniq TX2.
Apply the new paste on both the CPU as well as the HS contact area after completely removing the old paste.

Mr Naidu got this right, its the damn NV 6xx chipsets. I have been running e8200 on XFX 650i ultra for a yr now. The temps show 50-55 idle & 70-75 at load :@(prime95, superpi & the works) Have flashed the BIOS, re-applied thermal grease, got Ultima 90 wid a 90mm & a 120mm, nothin workd. The same proccy & ultima on my dl rig's asus p5n mx, NVidia 7030 chipset :ashamed: shows idle 30-34 & load 60 max. Just to double check I also tried them on a g31. Temps 30/50. So its just a prob wid NV's 6xx core logic

What utility are you using to report temperatures? I recently purchased a 630i w/E8400 CPU and I've found that the CPU reads at least 10C higher than either of the CPU cores. Mine idles at 50/51C with the CPU fan at 100%, and 56C+ *IDLE* when the CPU fan is at 26% which is how the PC came stock.

sure its due to the xfx 630i , that board is not good with 45nm processors , a friend had it and it failed to work initially then xfx gave new one which worked but not good with new processors , they dont even have bios updates for it :|

Don't know if the problem is being caused by the motherboard only, but the E8xxx series processors are very difficult to keep cool. Browsing across the net, I encountered many people who had difficulty keeping the processor cool with just the tiny stock aluminum heatsink.

If you can, go in for a heatsink ASAP. I bought the Ultima 90 for 2.1k and now the stock temps are 27-32 when idle and 35-41 even when the load is 100%. The earlier temps were 45 on idle and 60-70 when loaded. :O
