31-40k Intel G3258 - Replacement for 7 year old Intel C2D E8400?

Gents!

Need your help in deciding whether the following config makes sense for now. My 7 year old system has died, and I have no intentions of bringing it back to life. All I intend to keep, is the case, the PSU & the monitor for now. I saw this interesting article at THG about the Intel G3258 anniversary edition, and the overclocks that could be done on it, using not so very expensive boards. So wondering if that makes sense here, and if anyone has already tried it, perhaps they could share their experience.

If you have any doubts, please do let me know. I've been out of touch for a very long time, from the electronics & hardware industry, so I might not be aware of the latest trends. Apologies in case I made an error in judgement.

Intel G3258 is an excellent processor for low end rig
This can be overclocked to 4.6Ghz with after market cooler
Go with it.. if you are strict at budget

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't need 4 cores or hyper-threading all the time. I am looking at something to replace my now defunct desktop.
Should be cheap, but should be able to play the occasional game at 1680*1050.

Hm, thanks for the tip mate.
Seems to be a much better config than what I was thinking of.
Won't the 750 Ti need a better PSU? Something like 500 watts?
I have a very basic PSU. The Corsair CX 430. Do y0u think that will suffice?

It can easily handle games with above resolution

On overclocking to 4.6 ghz it beats core i3 4th generation proccy with huge margin on single threaded performance...

For low budget this processor is beast

Do not get the G3258 at this budget, @bssunil has recommended the best option.
To get the most out of the G3258 you'll need a Z series board which will cost more than the processor itself. Sure there are some manufacturers allowing overclocks on B/H series boards but Intel has pushed microcode in the past to block this functionality so there's no guarantee you'll be able to get the most out of the proccy.
Also, it's 2014 you shouldn't be buying dual core cpu's anymore unless you are building a rig for your grandparents.
