Intel's next-generation 10 Cores and 20 threads processor code-named Westmere-EX. :)

Intel's next-generation processor code-named Westmere-EX may include more cores than the company's current server chips, according to the title of a paper about the chip announced on Sunday. Intel will present a paper, called "Westmere-EX: A 20 Thread Server CPU," at the Hot Chips 22 conference , which will be held at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California between August 22 and 24.

Are they doing this to gain the market place as before which has now been taken over by AMD??

@stormblast If Intel plans to do this after 2yrs. then I'm sure AMD will even cross them more within 2yrs. :)
 
Can any one answer me the plus point of 10 cores?? Is there any application to use that much processing power?

These are mostly used in server machines. In fact some premier server applications licenses, like Oracle, are based on the number of cores.

BTW, AMD has already released its Opteron series processors with 12 cores.
