Intel pitches modular PC designs to make repairs less painful
(x86 behemoth calls the approach 'innovative' - DIY builders may disagree)

Modular PCs: because Intel just discovered that you can swap out components without having to throw away the whole thing.
Now, if they could apply that same logic to laptops and make swappable CPUs and GPUs a reality, that'd be something.
 
Intel originally released Celeron and Pentium cpu's in slotted design similar to gpu's. Then they shifted to pin type and now ball type/soldered. I had a Celeron A type processor in my pc similar to the one below.

Intel "Just discovered modular design" would be an understatement of a few decades.
