July 22 has arrived and Core 2 Quad Q6600s for under $300

Intel last week released a new lineup of 1333 MHz front-side bus processors at low price points, but held off price cuts for existing processors until July 22. The day has arrived and Intel price cuts for existing Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors are going into effect at various retailers.

Intel’s star for this round of price cuts is the quad-core Core 2 Quad Q6600. The price cut cuts the Core 2 Quad Q6600 price in half to $266 per processor, in 1,000-unit quantities, from the existing $530 price. The Core 2 Quad Q6600 is the only sub-$300 quad-core processor available on the market. Intel has positioned the Core 2 Quad Q6700, which launched last week, at the $530 price point.

Retailers have adjusted prices of the Core 2 Quad Q6600 accordingly. A quick search for the processor at online retailers shows prices starting at $275. ClubIT, Mwave, Newegg and ZipZoomFly have the processors listed below $300. However, Newegg has already sold out of Core 2 Quad Q6600 processors.

The price cuts also affect Core 2 Duo E4000-sequence processors. Intel’s Core 2 Duo E4400 drops $20 to $113 to make way for a new Core 2 Duo E4500. The new Core 2 Duo E4500 debuts at a $133 price point with a 200 MHz clock speed advantage.

If the $266 price tag is still a bit too steep, Intel plans to cut prices of its Xeon processor lineup in August. The Xeon price cuts affect quad-core Xeon UP and MP processors. The Intel quad-core Xeon processor lineup includes a 2.13 GHz X3210. Intel plans to drop the price on the Xeon X3210 to $224 come August.

Hawa ane mein der lagega .. ( It will take time for wind to flow from US to India) :) I think AMD is really getting squeezed in this scenario.

However its an individual's choice what to go for :)

e2140 & e2160 get new G0 steppings.

Where do u get all ur confused info frm

 the GO steppings are for E6550, E6750, E6850,Q6600,Q6700,Q6850

E2140 & E2160 also moves from L2 to M0 stepping....attaching pdf for more info specially for PoBoy :p

& new prices for the proocies are getting in effect frm arnd Wednesday thursday according to the dealers. As like in US.....for Q6600 dnt expect it 266$ ....it will be arnd 290-300$ ...more likely 14k arnd for Q6600

^ Yep, Intel prices have been reflecting damn fast in India, and like Supra said $266 is MRP, expect to pay about $15-20 over that ;)

Great News, thanks for informing us

What about price cuts from AMD??
Any news??
And will Standard G965 Chipset based boards support both 1066MHz & 1333MHz??

Could the guys in the know please reply.

Intel. This is what Processor Spec Finder said :

SLA98 2.00 GHz E4400 N/A 0800 MHz 65 nm M0 2 MB LGA775
SLA95 2.20 GHz E4500 06 0800 MHz 65 nm M0 2 MB LGA775
SLA93 1.60 GHz E2140 06 0800 MHz 65 nm G0 1 MB LGA775
SLA8Z 1.80 GHz E2160 06 0800 MHz 65 nm G0 1 MB LGA775

But, I think you are right. Sorry guys, my mistake.

Unless you have a crirical project in hand (or) you upgrading from something quite a bit lesser than opty165/x2 4200 it makes NO sense in buying these now with Penryn/Yorkfield launching in few months....

^^ They are slightly modified architectures (improved) of current Conroes and Allendales and Kentfield...

Performance improvement with them is said to be 10-20% AFAIK at the same clock speeds...

The Great battle: The great "Deepak" vs The lowly "Gordon Moore" :p

vs

Gordon Moore, Intel's doyen, has described the move to 45nm production, made possible by the use of high-k and metal transistors, as "the biggest change in transistor technology since the introduction of polysilicon gate MOS transistors in the late 1960s."

^^ Penryn/Yorkfield is a notable die shrink....45nm with rev new manufacturing tech....newer instructions which they r continiously modifying...

The moot point is at a price point of about 300$ u can buy a quadcore cpu that at stock will be close to Q6800 perf.... plus intel says they will be extremely overclockable with good TDP and sublime temp that 45nm will allow...

Ya York field is was better :) 45nm. Much more enhanced architecture :) Well these Quad have 2 Conroes glued on same Die while Yorkfield spots a true Quad Core design all cores on same die :)

If you want a good uP now,buy now, simple as that.
Within a year, nehalem will arrive.Thats a brand new architecture said to have a lot of new stuff

Nope,they're still MCM's just like kentsfield ..
No 'native quad',as in PR speak, until nehalem AFAIK..

It would be foolish IMO for anyone with a decent CPU to go the quad way with penryn xeons just 2-3 months away...

Now dont be a pest and say y not wait 1 year....You damn well kn 2-3 months wait isnt like an year...

1 year?! People can not wait that long folks.

I'd say don't jump on the Quad core bandwagon yet, if you really insist on quad core, and you're going to be upgrading soon, just get an E4400/E4500 Allendale for now and wait for the newer chips to come out. :)
