Nvidia's Director or PR, Derek Perez, has told Fudzilla that Intel actually won't let Nvidia make its Nforce chipset that will work with Intel's Nehalem generation of processors.

We confirmed this from Intel’s side, as well as other sources. Intel told us that there won't be an Nvidia's chipset for Nehalem. Nvidia will call this a „dispute between companies that they are trying to solve privately“ but we believe it's much more than that...

If you are old enough, you will remember that Intel killed VIA’s Pentium chipset business even though VIA had a legitimate license. Intel was cool towards Nvidia until recently, up until the point when Intel realized that graphics card might be used for more than gaming and after Nvidia’s bold decision to keep SLI for itself. It was a tough decision to go against Intel but if Intel got the SLI for its X58 chipset or any previous Intel’s chipset, business will be good as dead, or things would get much tougher then they are.

At this point Intel simply doesn’t want to honour its commitments toward the chipset license deal.

Nvidia has confirmed that it is officially becoming a victim of what VIA, AMD and many other companies have felt for a long time, as Intel tends to repress competition when threatened by superior products and technologies.

Nvidia is not the cleanest player around, but without a Nehelem chipset their chipset business unit might actually suffer some heavy losses, and obviously this is not what Nvidia wants.

Despite the fact that Nvidia has a license, Intel simply decided to cut Nvidia off. Intel is playing dirty as Nvidia is the only company that has something that Intel really wants, and cannot get.

It’s a catch 22 situation as Nvdia wants SLI support for itself while Intel would love to get SLI for its Nehalem chipset but Nvidia refuses to give it away.

Intel was always the bully and they simply won't let Nvidia make Nehalem chipsets, which is not really fair and honest way of playing the game. At least Jensen and the rest of Nvidia are not sitting and waiting for mercy; they are all locked and loaded for the biggest fight of their careers.

It seems situation has changed a lot in last one year. Intel's chipsets no longer sux and unlike old times when they were mostly used by OEMs and budget users seeking IGP support, post P35, X38, X48 Intel has probably the best chipset line-up.

Nvidia still holds the top with 790i but the difference is marginal. In fact, as the Intel's chipsets run cooler and are better priced they score one up over whatever Nvidia offers.

Intel's products were never this good earlier. From the day company pushed out Core 2 Duo, it has not allowed its competitors to catch breath. It has pushed some wonderful products and will continue to do so until everyone falls and monopoly reigns.

Nehalem may grab AMD's CPU business by throat and smash it into ground and X58 will have a field day if Nvidia does not get the permission to go ahead with Nehalem mobos.

No wonder, despite rivalry, Nvidia is still enthusiastically pushing chipsets for Phenoms and X2s.

I expected this sooner after Nvidia's refusal to allow SLI on other boards.

Intel chipsets are still more mature when it comes to productivity features, raid performance, efficiency and power usage.

Agreed 790i was amazing but still it lacked the raid / usb performance of X38/x48. And only way they could keep the buyers was to restrict SLI.

This will be double blow for Nvidia. It will kill the NV chipset business, and at the same time if they dont bend and allowe SLI on AMD/Intel chipsets, it will kill their SLI business as well.

Its win win not only for Intel but from AMD as well ;)

Nvidia itself dropped an axe on foot by havng good spat with evil intel.. This is what intel can do, a big blow to nvidia n a big victory to AMD..
Im afraid if AMD wd do the same, nvidia chipsets wil b written in history books.. LOL :ohyeah:

Although that article sounds very much pro-nvidia, the fact of the situtation is nvidia really got over in their head. They didn't tease Intel, cause teasing would be an understatement. Now Intel will take advantage of their position and use all available means to screw nvidia.

I really hope that doesn't happen though. Because without the competition, it is us who will suffer.

^I dont think so, With a flourishing business, nvidia may solely concentrate on amd chipsets, prolly we'll see better chipsets at lower prices..
Only if amd can pull of another good run in its CPU business with their future releases..

Computex 08: Despite the license

We all know that Jensen, Nvidia’s CEO, officially stated that Intel stepped over the line with its comments about Nvidia. Ever since Nvidia entered into the chipset license with Intel, Graphzilla was concerned with Intel's history of competing, and they would be naive not to.

If you are old enough, you will remember that Intel killed VIA’s Pentium chipset business, even though VIA had a legitimate license. Let’s not forget that Nvidia said that, “Intel's attempt to unilaterally and publicly interpret a contract between the two companies is unprecedented and unsupportable both legally and commercially.â€

This Nvidia vs Intel dispute is simply becoming more interesting by the hour.

What a biased article!!

and why wud u say that???? SLI is IP of Nvidia and they decided to keep it for themselves, whereas Intel had sold the license to Nvidia.(though Intel havent sold specifically Nehalem license, but i guess its more like they have sold their chip license till a certain no. of years or something and now are saying that the agreement does not include Nehalem.)

It's high time AMD, NVidia and Motorola should join Hands and START a BATTLE against Intel.

AMD, Nvidia claim Intel is denying them access to USB 3.0

AMD and Nvidia are working hand in hand for a new goal, one that pits them both against the 900 pound gorilla that is Intel. The two are claiming that Intel is trying to prevent them from developing chipsets around the USB 3.0 specification, a standard that has not yet been finalized and was only proposed a few months ago. According to them, Intel is not disclosing the specification to their competitors, which include both AMD and Nvidia. They claim that even though the PCI Special Interest Group is doing the footwork, Intel is capable of stonewalling them and not providing access to needed information.

Intel says they are moving with ?due speed?. Due speed to them might mean that they will reluctantly give over the information 6 months after they already have USB 3.0 products on the market, which would certainly infuriate anybody who is competing.

USB 3.0 promises a lot, including speeds faster than gigabit. Whether or not it will deliver will be based upon a lot of things, the least of which is not who will actually be able to produce platforms that feature it.
