For dual-core CPUs, Intel will launch the Core 2 Duo E8600 at 3.33GHz and US$266, and will phase out the Core 2 Duo E8300. The company will also drop pricing for the Core 2 Duo E8500 and E8400 from US$266 and US$183 to US$183 and US$163, respectively.

And launching some new CPUs

Intel is planning some price cuts in Q3 and at the same time they're planning on launching more quad-core and dual-core models, Digitimes reports.

The Core 2 Quad Q9650 at 3GHz will be launched at US$530, if you’re buying 1,000 units of course, whereas the Core 2 Quad Q9550 will get a price cut of 40%. It’s currently priced at US$530, which means that in Q3 it will set you back just US$316.

After the Q3 changes, the only 65nm quad-core CPU that will still be on offer from Intel is the Q6600, and it will be priced at US$203, a price cut of $21.

Intel will launch the Core 2 Duo E8600 at 3.33 GHz, priced at US$266, whereas the Core 2 Duo E8500 will drop from US$266 to US$183, and the E8400 from US$183 to US$163.

Duh. I bought an E6300 for 9100 Rs back in April 2007. Any sympathy left over for me? :P

Welcome to the world of PC hardware.

PS: It makes sense to play the waiting game and time the market, if the desire for performance can be controlled. :)

The problem is we cannot wait forever. In 2007 E6300 was an excellent choice. Now its the E8400, in Q3 it will be the q9450. In Q4 2008 or Q1 09 we will see the nehalem procesors with a different socket making these processors obsolete.

My advice is not to overspend more than what is required for the applications. Sometimes we get so carried away by benchmarks that we tend to build an unbalanced rig. The real battle is that of the next gen GPUs from nvidia and amd in the coming months...

instead of going for the chip...its better to go with keeping a budget in mind.....i dont spend more than 5k on proccy...that way i reduce the effect....anyways in 6 months it becomes cheaper
