Hello guys, me a newbie here :)

I recently went through some of the pages of the forum to see if this issue has already been addressed but it aint.

I intend to purchase DELL XPS 16 which is the latest config they are giving on their site. The earlier version of dell xps (hd 3670) did give heating issues but it seems the dell guys have got it corrected with the latest one(having 5 vents behind than the traditional 4).

I was to go for HP dv6 series but i didnt find a lappy which is somewhere near features that dell is providing.

All i want to ask is, is the So called Heating Issue been addressed with the new Dell?

Also how are the dell after service, i did get reviews that its not that good whereas HP offers good after sales service.

I intend to do gaming apart from watching movies and other basic stuff (want a desktop replacement.. honestly) I was looking for the dv7 series but not finding any.. can anyone please throw light on this one.

Could anyone clear the confusion for me as to what should i do?

Thanks :)

IF and only IF Dell XPS 16 is coming with ATI mobility Radeon HD 4670 then only go with Studio 16 IMO.

Rest of the things you will able to find in HP DV6.

There was an HP lappy which sported HD 4670 with an AMD turion X2 proc'r but that was much time ago and by now its rarely even available.

Features like an i7 proc's, DDR3 ram with 1GHZ speed, 1066 MHZ FSB, slot load optical drive, Windows professional edition upgrade(i seriously wanted this since WInXP virtual mode is supported only in ultimate and professional), 9 ion battery. After doing much research, i found that at the max i can only get Win7 home premium and a 6 ion battery in HP lappies.

My use.. involves typical lappy usage like watching movies, games not that frequently but at times yes, using MS office etc.

I was also looking for New studio 17 but its got only home premium with no mention of cost.

If there is any lappy from HP that gives..
1. more than or 15.6" widescreen.
2. WIn7 professional OS.
3. A decent CPU and GPU
please do let me know coz like i said earlier I was keen on dv7 but the hp site dosent mention much about it.

Personal opinion:

->Dont buy HP Dv series, there quality has gone pathetic since the past 2 years!

->Dell is better.

->Asus and Sony are currently having the best build quality

->Also check out Acer Aspire's, there quality seems to have improved alot.

Can you buy from US/Canada?

If yes, then you can get a Gaming laptop "Asus G series" with GTX 260M graphics in much less than 70k!! (While in india, you will have to chug out more than 1.2Lac to get such a config)

PS: Asus has 2 year global warranty, so that shouldn't be an issue.

It would be HD 4650 IMO, HP did not and has not come up with HD 4670 IMO.

Right now No model other then Studio XPS 16 will cover all of these. So As far as your budget is concerned you can go with it.

I don't agree with you. I have DV6 1154tx with P8600 and HD4650. And It's quite good performer.

In fact Dell studio 15 and XPS 16 were having quite a number of issues in last 1 year. There are number of posts lying around here in same section about'em.

Aspire is mainstream VFM laptop, not for mid-gaming IMO.

Sony is super but not VFM. But guy's budget is 70K, so He can think of sony also. But no HD4650/HD4670 will come under 70K IMO. [/QUOTE]

Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G51Vx-X3A NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M - Laptops / Notebooks

+1

Perfect suggestion

Sorry for continues posts.

To OP:

For 70K NEW Studio XPS 16 is best choice if you are gonna buy from INDIA.

Nope i cant... i did hear ASUS gaming lappies but as they dont have any centres in India.. cant help it.

I have some querries regarding Slot optical drives. Myself and bro had a bad experiences with the earlier HP series lappy with their cd tray's malfunctioning most of the times or not detecting dvd's. How does slot drive gains an upper hand over the traditional optical drives?

bump.....

I had been to dell exclusive showroom in mumbai and i inquired for xps 16.

but hell he told me that i wont get any freebies like mouse etc..

So now where shud i order from? from the dell showroom or by calling their C/C and have a word regarding the freebies since lappy's worth 70k.
