this is because it's database size is small compared to other security products. In a security product less scanning time is a good feature but good detection rate is a must have IMO.

The current KIS 2014 is so f#@ked up... Though the protection is great its a real resource hog. I'm using Kaspersky since last 5-6 years. Over the years it was getting more & more memory intensive but it didn't bothered me.. Been using 4GB RAM & only during scanning it use to stress my system.. But the latest version is slowing it down even if not scanning.. The programme itself takes ~2-3 mins to load during boot-up... If I try to launch the programme from the system tray after the initial start-up it takes ~1 minute to load therefore if I want to fiddle around the settings I've to painstakingly wait for it to load even if the computer was running for a couple of hrs...

The firewall though effective is quite stupid when you want to fine-tune it.. There is no way to add an application to the block list manually but you are given a choice with its inbuilt scanning of already running applications... Also since the KIS 2014 itself takes a long time to load during boot-up, I've to wait few mins before running an application like a game EXE otherwise it does not get blocked..

My current license will be expiring next year so I'll have to wait till then & maybe return to KIS 2013 in the meantime which was slightly better for me...

Also would like to add that I even formatted my system & installed a fresh copy of Win 7 Ultimate to see if my system is affecting the slow performance since it had been more than three years since I last formatted it & also was running 32bit Win 7 earlier...

I will be trying anything else from the suggested list from next year until Kaspersky improves... It has become a bloat-ware & a true blue resource hog...
