I'm thinking of buying an iPad for me and a friend (girl). I'm not sure which one to go for from either of two. I would have to carry it around and have previously used a Blackberry Playbook for a very short time and did not like the idea of carrying around a tablet irrespective of whether it was a 7 incher or a 10 incher. But now my work is such that, I've to carry a tablet with me on the go.

So which one to go for ? I mean, does the Mini version is really portable and less of a headache to carry around than the big iPad ?

And, where do I get the best deals for iPad mini/4 Wifi+cellular.

What are you going to use it for?

The problem with the iPad is it was always a giant iPod touch. However, it was too big and unwieldy to be a toy, and on the other hand, the OS was too dumb to be taken seriously. To be fair, most people just use Facebook, internet, e-mail and videos, and for such purposes iOS is certainly well-equipped. For these purposes though, iPad Mini finally gives meaning to the iPad line-up. It's a bit wide to be used one-handed, but overall much more portable than iPad, and built just as well. If you want to replace your PC and get work done, go for a Windows 8 tablet, no question. For basic consumption iPad mini is a great little device. For movie viewing, Nexus 7 is better. There's one thing that iPad 4 does best, and that is gaming.

So it comes back to the original question, what are you going to use it for? My choice is Acer W510 but that is because I need a portable device to get work done in addition to consumption.

If the carry around is the main criteria....then of course the mini... it can be used outside - one handed - mobility. That is the reason it released.

Else Ipad4 for upgraded processor and retina display.....where mini comes normal display + old processor.

But as usual being apple device it looks stunning. Black one.

I would need the iPad for :
i) Reading news, PDFs and eBooks.
ii) Word/PPT/Spreadsheets both online (via Google drive) and offline.
iii) Heavy web browsing
iv) Instant messaging (Multiple Gtalk IDs) and Multiple Emails and preferably be able to set up different ringtones for each mail account.
v) Be able to download and upload large attachments. Unziz/Unrar functionality also needed.
vi) Maybe games.
That said, I would like the battery life to be extremely good. Also, I would often be writing and editing emails/word while on the go and I may not have the option to keep the iPad on a desk and type.

So accordingly, I would like to consider a tablet based on the following parameters:
One-handed operation
Ease in typing on the keyboard - both portrait and landscape
Text sharpness
Speed and Fluidity
Light weight
Indian warranty

I have a iPad 2 with me that I bought last year. I have been using company iPad mini for some time. In terms of speed ,fluidity there is no difference between the two. My observations of the iPad mini.

1.> Excellent for reading.
2.> Good for gaming compared to the iPad 4 as the controls are easier. Has a older processor compared to the iPad 4. So this might become a factor when you play graphic intensive games.
3.> Decent for watching movies as the screen is smaller compared to iPad.
4.> Easier to hold and carry around compared to the iPad 4.
5.> 10 hours of battery life.
6.> Absence of retina display but the screen is good.
7.> Typing on the Mini can be sometimes cumbersome on the iPad mini.

So the final decision is upto you. No matter one which you end up buying I am sure you will enjoy using it. The Apple iPad series are the best tablets in the market and no one comes close not even nexus 7 in terms of the whole package.

If you are serious about PDF reading then get the ipad 4, you wont regret it.

I have iPad 3 which i had purchased mainly for reading pdf (text books). Its awesome to read pdfs BUT i'm planning to get an iPad Mini! Why? Because iPad 3 or 4 is big and heavy!

My hands starts to pain after holding it for sometime (~15 min) and will have to keep it on table for using it, just like how i use my laptop!

I suggest you to go to a store and use both for sometime and decide.

dont know about the rest of you guys but i would prefer a bigger screen to chat and browse ,rather than worry about carrying
