iPhone 3GS in India: At last. Will it sell, NOW?

I dont understand the fascination apple has with selling locked phones, 44k for that phone is hideous.

Apple has started selling no-contract ATT locked iphone 3GS for 599$ and 699$. This means that there won't be any contract but the phone will be locked to ATT.

Will only be a dream for us who have no NRI relatives.

you guys sure it will be at 44k? coz I don't think so. iphone, iphone 3G were both priced around 35k during release. And now that the competition is lot more heavier than earlier, I don't see a reason for pricing it above 40k.

whoever has such extraaa 44 k money , buy it in bulk , then distribute it for TEins for free .
believe me all of them will love you more than any girlfriends you have

It wont sell ...cause already iphone 3gs has been out from the gray market @ herra panna and other places 4m october and also in june - july apple is eager to release it's iphone 4G which is said to be have a decent price infact less than a Iphone 3gs and also got some decent upgrades looks , camera and etc ...So Iphone 3GS from airtel or any other will be a flop 4 sure but it will keep selling via grey market .

Launch on March 26. Prices out.

Bharti Airtel’s official Twitter account has let it slip that it will be launching the latest iPhone handset on March 26. The handset will be available at Airtel authorized retail stores across India, including select Airtel Relationship Centres.

Airtel has also disclosed the Indian pricing for the iPhone 3GS. The 16GB model will cost Rs 35,000 ($780), while the 32GB model will cost Rs 41,500 ($910).

So far what I have understood as a psychie of apple is that Apple is a company for people who are Brand Conscious and Quality centered. No doubts the products are of sheer excellent quality but at the same time prices are ridiculously high because they know the people who will be buying it will definitely be able to afford it..

Now the catch behind keeping it locked is that Apple must be getting a good amount from all carriers as well to keep the loyality of the customers by keeping the iPhone to certain/limited carriers.. this way Apple is getting more money.. Now in US subsidiary is possible so carriers are ready to support apple. Here Apple itself knows that it can go bankrupt if subsidiary is allowed.. so no subsidiary and in the mean time Airtel and Vodafone are encashing the situation.. Carriers in India have gone mad.. they know.. they are not going to sell much.. because of no subsidiary possible in India.. so if they are selling less then why not get a higher margin.. thats why the phone is hell lot costlier than other places.. I mean just imagine an unlocked 16GB iPhone sells for 35k and you are getting the same phone from airtel and vodafone at the same price..

Well I must say not a bad pricing looking at grey market. But now after this price grey market for iphone 3gs will be heaven so good for people who are out looking for low price can buy atleast close to 29k from grey soon

Pricing looks a tad better to me though! Considering the 8GB 3G retails for 29,500, a discerned iPhone buyer might opt for the 16GB 3GS for 6k more. Not to mention the phone retails with warranty considering grey market pricing to be almost the same!

^I think he's referring to the price difference between the 16GB and the 32GB 3GS. They have a similar price difference. :p

Uh... 6k difference in double the memory size PLUS different model, 3G vs. 3GS is bullshit?

He meant this pricing

iPhone 3GS 16GB (Rs) 35,500*
iPhone 3GS 32GB (Rs) 41,500*

6K difference for 32GB 3GS vis-a-vis 16GB 3GS

B$ pricing..i hope airtel never sells any 3GS. And 500 MB free data..wow what a offer
