As for theft, there is a story i have. Don't know if i mentioned it here. A friend of mine ordered an iphone 6, it was delivered to her office. it got pinched out of her office by some people doing renovation. She never even got to open it. But she had the IMEI number. So apple has a site that allows you to track their devices. She kept checking the site. Then one fine day about four months later it showed up. She contacted the cops, they found the device and returned it her a week later. So she believes iphones can't be stolen.
it changed hands three times before some student picked it up for 22k and had to surrender it.
no bribes paid to the cops who told her to be more careful, this is in bangalore.
I'm interested in this IMEI tracking site apple has. i don't think there is one for android but vendors have similar facilities available. The prolem is they are apps which can be disabled or removed. IMEI tracking isn't available to the public AFAIK only to telcos. Yeah, they are supposed to alert the cops but that's not certain.
