I got the damned device back in mid 07

after using it for a while and then having to give it (actually them) to friends & family tried switching back to Symbian and WinMo

After losing out a fair bit of money via buying and then later selling off these devices. I realized my money is better wasted (?) switching back

Am sticking with it till an (actually) better device comes out

Honestly, its not about having it, its not even about money. Its about the feeling that Apple keeps you taking for a ride evenwithout caring for its customer.

Some year back I had high esteem for Apple, but now they are nowhere where they were.

Its like pied piper taking all the rats along with them, and the problem is the rats are not even aware that they are taken for a ride. Hence dont want to be another rat.

wicked analogy...only problem is that by this token, you could term the piper here as the piper from redmond or Helsinki or elsewhere :lol:

Every OS/platform has its issues

e.g. even though a Ubuntu may be great as a server platform, it just doesn't cut it (still) for laptop usage (like doing a manual mount via the terminal everytime I try plugging in a USB drive that was not "clean unmounted" (which means nearly every pen drive since hardly anyone does a clean eject of a pen drive from the last windows machine it was plugged in)

Even though a Windows may be great as a desktop system, it sucks on servers (try cleaning up the memory leaks without a reboot)

Anyway, way OT here, but to conclude, I'll just leave you with the conclusion from a review I wrote ages ago for the iPhone (this is long before v2.x/ App Store/proper 3rd party apps ..Can't remember a single gadget I have not gotten bored of even after so long

Technically speaking, my N73 can do all that the iphone does and more (give the solid Symbian apps library) but what I have noticed so far is that on the N73 or ipaq, I would use a geeky feature to try it out, have fun with it for a day or two and then forget about it once the initial excitement would wear off because it would be too messy and complicated to keep using those applications.

This device however makes doing whatever it does so easy and fun that you would not hesitate to use any of the features.

To conclude, it is very easy to pen down a critique for what this device lacks, but it is not at all easy to describe what this device has , a certain je ne sais quoi if you will, (and that's the reason why I have not listed any pros above) and you really need to try it out in person to understand why I am gushing so much over this phone.

Agreed, we are two people with two different mindset/approaches, hence two different opinion. I am not intending to force my opinion, neither expect you to.

Hence for me what matters most may not even count to you, thats fare and very well square.

Only thing that gets my goat (and probably does not apply to you) are the herd mentality ultra opinionated critters who will read up 10 random articles on the web and form an opinion about anything and everything

I usually refrain from commenting about an Operating System/device/whatever unless I have tried it out (thoroughly) myself

I comment on Windows/Linux/OS X because I use all three OSs on a daily basis

I comment on Symbian vs WinMo vs iPhone since I have used all three platforms for a long period of time

And often, but very Ironically, the people who accuse the Apple likers of following a herd mentality are actually guilty of the exact same crime

Trust me, 75% of the people who diss the iPhone haven't ever used one , and many of the remanining have fiddled around with a friend's or colleagues phone for a short period

However, that does not stop em from forming an extreme opinion since 10 odd articles on some vague technology sites say so

Bitesms is asking to buy a license :S ! SO is there any freeware for forwarding sms on a iPhone?
 
I just use clippy ... tap on the msg bubble you want to forward (to copy contents on clipboard) then paste contents in a new sms

Yes, they released a new version which is no longer free. But as superczar mentioned, clippy does the job.
 
Wow.. u mean the iphone has been out 2 years without the ability to copy and paste. Truly amazing hype on this phone :) (Sorry no offense to the fanboys, but was shocked to see this)

Yeah, my wife loves it. Even I like to fiddle around with it sometimes though I still use my old trustworthy P1i myself. Had hopes for the Xperia but Windows mobile has a long way to go. Symbian is still king but i really do like the touch interface of the iPhone.

Mine humble o2 xda graphite (mere 6k) sports following in contrast:

Copy-Paste

File Transfer ( Over Bluetooth and Wifi)

Has A2DP

Has MMS

Has Video Recording

Apart from above:

Am able to write python based application for self usage and am using it ( I even have a tiny web server on it and occasionally take report on to the desktop :) through WIFI ).

So am happy.

^^lol, most phones have the same! The iPhone is just more fun to use. Not very practical, but it's definitely more fun. Read that as I use my P1i to commute and borrow the iPhone to race :)

Oh well then you do know that I can install apps using apt-get via Terminal from my iPhone ? Or I can use my iPhone as a web-server ? Or as a development platform for python or java ? or for Ruby on Rails ? You do know right ?

i was about to say this.

Sounds almost saddistic to do these things on a phone, unless there is really a dire need/zero alternatives of doing it.

BTW when do we stop comparing a demeaning a beautiful product like iPhone, its a king in its own genre. Though i dont use it and can neither afford one, i luv the device.
