Opera comes to the iPhone

Opera Mini App approved for the App Store
Oslo, Norway – April 13, 2010

Opera today announced its popular mobile browser, Opera Mini has been approved for iPhone and iPod touch on the App Store. Opera Mini will be available as a free download within 24 hours, depending on market.

Opera Mini, with more than 50 million users worldwide, enables fast mobile Web browsing by compressing data by up to 90 percent before sending content to the device, resulting in significantly improved page loading. Users of the app will notice an uptake in speed, especially on slower networks such as the 2G Edge network. Surfing the Web with the Opera Mini App on iPhone and iPod touch will also help users save money because of its data compression capabilities. This will hold especially true while the user is incurring roaming charges.

"We are delighted to offer iPhone and iPod touch users a great browsing experience with the Opera Mini App," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “This app is another step toward Opera's goal of bringing the Web to more people in more places."

The Opera Mini App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at iTunes Store.

I loaded opera mini 5 in ipod touch and for some unknown reason, when I start the browser, all I see is blank page and it's kind of hung. title bar shows Opera Mini and the status icon rotates at the top left corner.

anyone else facing this problem?

It's fantastic! Works really well especially when you load up websites for the 3rd or 4th time when they're already cached.

Perfect for EDGE connections.. Thanks OP! :)

Same here.I deleted it from my phone reinstalled it and still the same results:@ I hope they fix it and now that they know their app has been accepted, they can focus all their energy on making it even better.

I faced the same issue on my touch 32gb 3rd gen. It took some time but then the welcome screen/dial pad or whatever it be called appeared fine.

I understand it was the time it took to setup the browser and I have seen the same for my LG/Nokia phone too where it has some steps to be completed before the setup completes. In case of Ipod touch it carried out those steps in the background, but yeah a status message informing the user would have helped.

My first impressions aren't too good as such, I found the page load operation less smoother than Safari, though the menu options in the bottom are a good feature.

Installed it on my phone and its been wonderful!! The first startup took a minute, so be patient. Subsequent starts take 5 seconds on my 2G. Also, keep your data connection ready before starting Opera.

One million downloads

Also topping the chart for the most downloaded free app in every country its been released in.

Posted this from Opera Mini on iPhone :)

Will give it a second try then

I like the browser, BUT, it has only 2 levels of view (read zoom), one is zoomed out one is zoomed in, that means if you got those small buttons you want to press, its going to be hard to do that.
