***iphone Price Drop***

all these speculations are hopeless. I will believe when I see the price drop becoming reality.

It wont happen immediately as in that case, the current customers will be furious, specially those who are buying them on EMI.

I dont see any change until diwali. It might not be worth it, but Apple is a brand which sells products because of "fanatic followers"

But there are some good deals available on iPod touch at the moment. I was able to find 8 and 16GB iPod touch in grey market costing less than what it costs on newegg :D

Might just buy that :P

didnt apple also almost immediately after launch drop prices in the US, infuriating loyal early buyers (aka gullible fangirls) there too? :D

In case of India, it is not apple but Airtel and Vodafone who have fixed this price to encash the craze of people and finding sale not at all upto expectations. Price fall not once but many times by the end of year is on the wall. Indian people cant be cheated now very easily I am sure as stuff of 200$ in Rs31000/- is beyond any reasoning.

pricing debate is flawed.

I agree that as a device its not worth 30k, i wont even pay 25k for it. But the $200 price comparison is wrong.

That pricing is with expensive 2year contract in states. We pay much less here / month. Here you can opt for data plan or you can opt out. Its our choice.

^^ they claim apple has set prices.

mutual monopoly

yea both airtel and vodafone execs on ndtv gadget guru were claiming apple had decided the price and not them :)

the device (hardware) itself is cool, just cant stand the OS/platform... i wish openmoko can come out with these hardware specs (design actually) soon...

IIRC they did offer a credit(for Apple Store) of about $100 or so to people who bought it at a higher price!

It still doesn't justify a 300%+ increase in prices.

It does - considering the TCO of iPhone 3G over 2 years in US is more than $1800.

Your comparison is flawed too, how much do you think does a plan with 450 minutes a month & 5000 minutes on nights & weekends with unlimited data (we're not even talking 3g here) cost an average Indian on Airtel or Vodafone ? I am not talking about the select few who have corporate numbers...

I am not complaining about the price, but I will admit that its about 6k higher than what I prefer to spend on a phone.

Apple plans to sell over 40 million iphone 3g units worldwide. So it's just a matter of time before there is a price drop.

It would still turn out to be cheaper in India (ofcourse no 3G though :P )

I am not saying the pricing is good-enough to buy without second-thoughts. But I am really sick of people doing a one-to-one comparison between the cost of a subsidised iPhone 3G in US and the one available here

($200 vs Rs. 31000... )

O2 in UK is going PAYG at 350 pounds for the 8gb model. so approx ~ 27K.

and that i think would be the price it might go down to in india

Iphone is already being sold for 29500 by voda in delhi. So I assume it come down to 25 by this year end. And till 27 by this diwali..
