Thanks Giving Day is on Thursday, November 26th 2009. things are much cheaper on that day, buy on that day, but i really doubt abt the Iphone.

personally i do not see a point taking it from there, cost are the same here as compared to there & ya no warranty, god knows what did u really searched in India, maybe u haven't searched enough.

lets see what your relative gets from made in united states of barak obama / assembled in republic of china.

dude i went to alfa

there they quoted Rs.27k for 8gb version iphone 3g and 38k for 3gs version.

also, vodaphone locked iphone comes for around 32k in india.

where i can buy it in usa?

plz help

can u give some precautions while buying from ebay.com. sm good dealers fr iphone from ebay.com would be most welcome. TIA.

I also have the same question.
From Where should I buy an iphone in India.
Any chance of the iPhone 3gs launching in India anytime soon.:ohyeah:
I dont want the headache of buying a phone from US and then trying to update it time and again with the new OS with the risk of the phone going brick.:bleh:
I am seeing the ebay site for new iPhone and I am finding most of them for around 700$.
Around 32k Indian rupees.
Hopefully I will buy the phone asap.

Your best bet is to source from India, as you should be aware that the phone's sourced elsewhere will be locked to networks (Except - Australia, Hongkong, Italy). If you can source from these countries you will have a factory unlocked phone, However you wouldn't get internation warranty. But there is way to purchase it - It's called apple care and retails around $60 which gives your two years extended warranty including batteries.

If you want peace of mind just source it from India, if you are able to take risks then import them. Obviosly you're investing quite lot on a phone.

iphone does not have international warranty. even with applecare.

You are asking for help in ur thread.. atleast act a bit responsible yourself and specify in the thread title as to what the content might be.

Simply keying in 'Iphone' doesnt helps the visitors and is a waste of time for few.

Guys, how about taking used iphone from US & unlock it here ?

As far as I have seen used 3G 8 GB iphones are just around 300$ in USA.

Is there any version check one should do before taking used one ?

currently anything upto os v3.1.2 can be unlocked one way or the other. dont see y you should have any problems....

my cousin works in apple. so how about you search deeper... check the terms n conditions for applecare for iphones. its clearly stated there tht iphones will not carry international warranty, in contractual language ofcourse. if you still dont believe me then call apple helpline, they will tell you the same. and call twice to confirm.

iphone contracts do not allow any carrier or service centre to repair phones of another carrier or country.

now stop spreading false info.

Okay - Not getting into an argument here.

I just got off phone with Apple online store guys and they've confirmed it's covered - they may be wrong, I will double check by walking into an Apple shop today.

Oh and I'm not here to spread false info - Everyone learns something new everyday.

i very sincerely apologize for my harsh tone. i dont usually do such a thing :(

see here is what my cousin said.

in every country most iphones are locked to carriers and the carriers are not allowed to unlocked the iphone, by contract, thus all the iphones in the carriers stock are locked to them so they cannot provide any replacement iphones. thus the international warranty is useless.

as of what i understood, the apple care plan is valid only in the country it is bought from. this is only for iphones. this goes for officially unlocked iphones also. other apple products will have global warranty. see iphone is not your ordinary ipod/imac. it is sold under contract between apple and the carrier/government.

when i had bought my iphone, i made sure tht my australian contact confirmed the same. i also confirmed it from india.

so if you bought an iphone n then the applecare plan, n u dont get international warranty, n after that you sue apple, they will tell you to read the terms n conditions.

hope this helps.

No offense taken - This is all part & part of Internet forums :) & also since you're a fellow Man U fan.

I'm not sure if you are aware - O2 in UK are officially unlocking your phones even if they are within the contract (You've to honour the remaining contract by paying the money though), so you're not tied to any network and your relationship ends there. Now the APP is with you & apple - I've just glanced through the 14 pages PDF (Terms & Condition) and couldn't find anything which denies this fact. I'll definitely walk into a Apple shop and confirm before tonite.

Edit - Okay, have just popped back from Apple Store and the Sales person indeed confirmed it's international warranty, Supposing you can't get it fixed over the phone or you are not able to get to the Apple store yourself you will get a pre-paid envelope to post back if you call the Apple care number.
