Hi guys,
I happen to have a 2 year old 5th gen 30GB U2 special edition iPod video. Its without a scratch on the screen/body. Off late the battery is loosing its sheen and lasts a max of 4 - 5 hours. I know the policy of battery replacement at APPLE. All am interested is -
1. Is it possible to give the iPod to APPLE, pay extra and get a iPod touch/160GB classic etc?
2. I asked the IMAGINE store at Bangalore and the guys said it might be possible in US and not in India? Is this true?
3. I came across websites such as this - www.greatipodexchange.com/, iPod Trade In Programs - Sell Your iPod - Trade Old iPod for New
Are these guys reliable? Have any of u guys used these services? If so, which? Any comments or recommendations welcome!
4. I have lost the receipt. Will that be a problem? I had bought the iPod at Singapore

P.S: I will be going to the US of A in a few months time and so contacting stores in the US should not be a problem.

TIA!

I do not think Imagine can deny you an exchange if Apple approves it.

You better contact Apple customer care and get a case number for same before approaching imagine.

One of my friends dropped his iPod in water bucket and thus it went kaput. Imagine people refused to take it, but once he called up Apple, they provided a case number and this made imagine people purrr from backhole instead of saying "no sir we cannot take this damaged iPod for repacement".

Gist of story - somehow get a case or reference number from Apple support if possible.

Thanx for the reply blufox. the guys at IMAGINE are ready to take my iPod and replace the battery, but according to them APPLE does not support exchange offers in India. I will try contacting APPLE anyway. Thanks for the tip.

Also as far as I checked on APPLE website, there are no such exchange offers mentioned.

^^^ Just call the Customer care and straight away ask if you can get your iPod replaced somehow.

exchange offers neva really give you good value for ur used products...

I'd say try selling it off on TE and add some cash and get a new one ;)

if ur ipod is in warranty period .they just replace it for u or else i dont think they will replace the battery for u ...and if even if they did they would charge u crazy money

i had sm hardware problem in my video ipod and it was out of warranty ..i went to their service center in bandra ..and that guy was charging me 5k for it wth !!

i would better get a new pod ....sell it off nd get a new 1 :P

ipod has a international warranty ..coz the same thing happend to my friends ipod he got it from usa ..he got a tottaly new 1 ..coz it was in warranty period

@Neville: Will keep that in mind.

@xerocool: Its out of warranty. A new battery costs 59 USD. Thats why am thinking of other options as well!
