^correction..its after 6 mins

Whatever but irctc is still extreme slow during peak hours. It results in Service Unavailable page or simply says waiting for reply or loading. Worst---it even fails at the payment confirmation window where one thinks the work in 99.995 done. And then an email prompts saying you ticket has been booked that too either in WL or RAC. Such is the dilemma faced by 100000 out there..

Something needs to be done. They should infact have local servers all over India, like separate servers for Mumbai, Delhi etc. and separate for fellow state cities like another servers for rest of Maharashtra etc.

IRCTC's site has become so lame and slow. The payment gateway also times out on the return-back. No ticket, card debited.

Happened to me thrice yesterday. Will try again tomorrow. It is usually the last step where it stumbles.

So, has anyone booked tickets via IRCTC successfully in the last couple of days..? It's being a PITA with 4 transactions in the last couple of days at different times of the day being a failure, at the last moment. All 4 times, it was a time-out after verified by visa authentication. That means, cash debited but no tickets booked.

#[member='logistopath'] - just yesterday I booked tickets. I used Chrome & net banking to pay. Everything went smooth.

Don't know what is the issue then. After another failed attempt an hour ago, I finally booked via Cleartrip.

#[member='varkey'] - for tatkal tickets ? better use them only right cos servers won't be bombarded in the morning at 8

^ For all tickets. But you can book Tatkal tickets from websites other than IRCTC only after 10 AM.

I was also debited for two tickets, but tickets were not booked... Any Idea how many days it takes them to refund the amount ??

Yesterday morning irctc was completely dead. Confirmed via downformeoreveryone.com

Tried accessing it more than 100 times between 8am-8:35am.

There somehow i got able to book the ticket as only 21berths were available but during payment option once again in Debit card category, SBI name went missing like it use to happen in old site. I dont know what issue they have only with this SBI option.

Again did the whole ABCD thing and this time it showed sbi but payment failed at last moment as usual.

And berths went down to 14 now.

My bro and everybody gave up from their laptops and so was me, but thought of giving my last best shot and during payment i selected SBI Netbanking. You guys wont believe it. No hassles, my bank site opened, filled up ma login details, just confirmed twice for the payment and all this went within 40secs and the ticket was booked, confirmed & got the preferred berth.

And this was the same ticket re-booking for which i opened this thread and ultimately cancelled that old ticket.

IRCTC servers are some really old and weary mainframes which should have been retired long time ago. However instead these mainframes guys go around making a big celebration out of being the technology behind one sites that IMHO can't handle any load properly.

Yes, the portal is showing extreme latency. I have three transactions in pending. By the way if you try to book through an external site (makemytrip); it forces you to lock your existent IRCTC ID to the makemytrip portal. The lamers send you a password on mail and phone. And reset the IRCTC account password.

I did all the above, and again it bombed out. Cause the external vendor still talks to the latent lazy a$$ IRCTC DB. I had to call up makemytrip, cause they have not refunded, and the ticket was not delivered. Due to this f$$$ up of IRCTC, tickets ran out, and I had to push my journey forward. Change leaves at office.

Best is early morning. Load is less. Around 9-10 AM. It is a lame-fest, to be honest.

#[member='asingh'] Yeah, I had to associate my IRCTC account with Cleartrip account, with change in password as well. But with Cleartrip, I have had no problems. Booked three tickets today, and all three bookings went very smooth.

BTW, isn't 9-10 AM a traffic heavy time, with all the Tatkal (8-10AM) rush?
