Is defy plus the best phone for 16K budget??

Hi Bretheren........

Im getting a gift with a budget of approx 16k ,

will be upgrading from my month old HTC explorer which is brilliant phone none the less, but I read a lotta ebooks , so the screen space is lil less ( will go for sale anytime) .

Just wish to knw if Defy + is the best bang for buck at about that price (16k) , will extend the budget by max .5 k , but only for to die for feature.....



I really like the 2 features that make it stand out even though the other specs match with quite a lot many phones

1) 1750 Mh battery ( should last 1.5 day with heacy usage )

2) It is almost 'anything proof'
All your suggestions are welcome and will be researched like a true 'Price Conscious Nerd' :) :)
 
Well if you want a bigger screen in the same budge you can check out galaxy sl from samsung. Also other options with better chipset and better camera then defy include sony neo v. can't say much about the newer battery but even the older defy I had was pretty decent by android standards .
 
have a look at lumia 710 also .. i loved the interface .

with initial prices hovering around 18.9k i guess it will suffice but i am sure the prices will come down by jan and it will be bang for buck .:)

if u are more into customizations u can go for galaxy sl as suggested by others but if u can extend ur budget by 5k then the best fone would be galaxy r. ( it has ample of screen size for ur book reading purposes;) ).

Ok guys ....just did a quick search and found that the only closest competitor is Samsung Galaxy SL I9003,

The Pros with i9003:

1) Massive inbuilt memory ( so I save on 16 gig card)

2) 4 inch Screen ( not a big up but still)

3) Even though 1500mh Battery , but much more stand by and talk time on 2g ( atleast on the spec sheet)

Can any one tell me which one to choose over which one or there is 3rd entrant making this a good ol Royal Rumble....:)

Defy has better battery backup than galaxy SL, and its screen size is 0.3 inch smaller, its more pocketable becuase almost the whole area is the screen. it has same 1 GHz processor as galaxy SL, and a good GPU too, and the screen resolution, my personal choice is Defy+

Being said that,Defy or Defy+ ISN'T "anything Proof" its just resistant to water/dust/fall etc...

But honsetly there is no difference between Defy and Defy+
Its just the processor being 1 Ghz in defy+ and 800Mhz in Defy
Everything else is the same,even the GPU they provide is same....so i don't feel getting a Defy+ would be a great choice

The samsung Galaxy SL is a better option than going for defy
You get a bigger screen,1Ghz proccy,GPU is same as defy
Plus a lot of other features....like video calling as it has a front camera which is not available in defy/defy+

So between Defy and Galaxy SL get the SL :)

not really, defy+ has IP6N certification and 1700 mAH battery, and Bayer module lens but the processor is same as defy (which was underclocked to 800 MHz in Defy) and OMAP 3630 GPU (same as defy). to me Defy+ is not worth an upgrade over Defy and Defy is more VFM.
 
Thanks man....their marketing was getting to me before I reminded myself that the future is all android :) . Kidding just a personal pref to stick to android.....

Thanks man , Nokia marketing with Lumia was luring me in , before I reminded myself that Andorid is the Future of everything....juts kidding , its just personal preference to stick to android.....

Yes , I misread it sumwhere for some other , its 4 gig, which is again quite decent.

Thats a good point , irrespective of the screen size, the Defy plus or defy have more usable screen size , but smaller footprint since no physical
buttons. which makes it more pocktable.....

Agreed, defy + reviewers have treated the phone to some extremes , and the phones easily is built to sustain all that, for eg full functionality when submerged under water etc .....not sure even Defy is built to do that ....I think its a great plus to have a phone which you will never worry about water /Stains/ treatment/ fall down etc and in that regard I said that it is 'everything proof' , and I guess that is the real upgrade and processor is actually the same clocked to 1 gig... so thats not making me pull

Again, Im unsure if Defy has all the same toughness of Defy + , if yes, I will any day go for Defy and save 2-2.5 k . Can anyone confirm this?
Battery , galaxy SL has an upperhand atleast on paper.........

Some new vocab here for me..... what is IP6N, please care to explain how does it affect me , ditto for bayer module ( Yes I know I cuda googled , but I ask here)

As I Mentioned earlier , for me Defy + over Defy is more because of 'Toughness ' factor than the spec sheet ( although battery is a big welcome).
@All: Any reviews about SE Neo V, hear it fits in the same price bracket......VFM is it?

IP6 = Totally protected against dust

IP7 = Protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m

Now motorola denies about the certification and defy do not have it, but defy+ has that certification, though motorola denies it. But as of I checked before buying my defy, both has the same build. But I guess the new defy (generally made in August) are not that sturdy as early releases. May be because of Defy+

Now about Bayer module, there are pages and pages of discussion about it, actually motorola Defy came with SOC camera module, except some copies (generally made in 1st and early of 2nd quarter of 2011 ~~ my observation) which came with bayer module lens, bayer module lens comes with the capability of HD recording where other modules are not. and we can install Defy+ firmware on Defy with Bayer module. But the cam is still creepy.

Neo V is a good phone and quite VFM. you can find many reviews of Neo V in this forum, just check the posts for suggestion under 15k or 16k budget
 
Well, it's listed in ebay for 15.6k. Get the 5% ebay discount and it comes to Rs. 15,250.

Spend the remaining 850 bucks on a 16GB Memory card and BAM! YOu got yourselves a sweet deal!

Just figured Neo V comes with only 320 internal mem, thats a real downer as some of the apps such as google reader which download feeds and whats app also downloads all the cache in phone mem.....so this is not exactly future proof. ..with the other phones in comparison.....

On the other hand Defy + camera is apparently no as 'happening' ....can any one vouch?? More over no dedicated Camera key even in defy + , thats actually quite lame, as the defy cant be told as entry series phones.
 
Get Defy if your a roiugh user. Unless u are a rough user, you appreciate the phone or its design. And yes it has good dev support so modding will appeal your "geeky" side. ICS is being ported to Defy as speak. No different b/w defy and defy+. Defy is just underclocked at 800mhz. Its the same 1ghz procy on Defy+ just not underclocked.
 
You can get the samsung focus, it has got a 4inch screen, 1ghz proc, 5MP camera, 8GB internal storage. only thing is that it has WP7.

Guys....in case I dint mention before....Im ga ga over Android for now......primarily because of the budding app community and seemless integration with google apps which is essential for me.....may be 6 months later it will be Windows or Meego.....

defy+ has bayer module which is capable to capture 30 fps HD recording, but, still crappy.. about dedicated camera key, no they have not, but you can set the volume key as shutter key by using camera zoom fx

Neo V is also good VFM
