is it just me or TOI is gone soft?

print media is good only for toilet time reading and catching up with local news etc., in which TOI fits in easily.

For the real news, you have the internet.
 
DNA is fine for me. I get my daily update and I form my own opinions later.
I also cross check stories on the TOI, Mid Day and Mumbai Mirror when I reach my office.
 
Had any one read The Asian Age ?
I used to get it 6 yrs ago.
Just for a month or two. One day, my mom saw a photo of a model on ramp with nipple slip and next day we shifted to Marathi newspaper !!

He's right on layout & looks for TOI. Most attractive and easiest on the eye.

The other papers here are a distant second.

It's curious you say this does not happen in other cities but for Bang i'd agree fully. I just wish they hired more intelligent journalists. Their articles seems to raise more questions than give answers. Also the proof reading is poor in comparison to the DH.

There is one last & more pertinent point, the times group has lots of financial wheeling & dealing going on behind the scenes which indirectly contributes to a conflict in interest when reporting.

You wont be able to prove a thing about it but it will inevitably introduce a subtle spin. When they write an article about a company try to assess whether they are promoting it or not. You never know if they there is a connection between them & it.

Less an issue for the TOI but perhaps more for the ET.

Its not strictly the "financial wheeling and dealing" as you put it between the Times Group and certain cos., though that may happen too as well. Oftentimes its just that companies have friends (read journalists) in right places. And in that I am sure ET isn't alone.

On the whole though, I've found ET to be a better newspaper, even for regular news than TOI. Once I went through the TOI trying to find a single "news" article (meaning something which wasnt gossip or speculative) and failed.

Other newspapers I've found decent reading - The Hindu and the Indian Express.
 
I meant the times group does financial services and is involved with future IPOs. They would have no probs writing articles favouring said companies which then promotes the company.

What you mentioned about knowing journalists i think is a lot more mundane in comparison.
 
Which financial services are you referring to? As in the name of the Times Group company which does IPO management etc.

Care to quote any specific instance?

comes with being in a job where when you see a person die/get killed, your first thought is about writing it up, not actually doing something about it.
 
at least put away my camera/recorder and try the help the person, at least die with dignity. And try not to take that award winning shot

Rest Everything suckz :@ I agree Hindu is very good paper but it's somewhat boring :P It's the best for those who are preparing for Common Admission Test (CAT) or any other examination which requires intensive English/Vocabs :hap2:
 
I read HT and TOI daily. I've been doing this since years (we were made to read newspapers in school for 1 hour daily). During my engineering examinations when I had no time to read the dailies, I used to read them on one specific day. I spend around an hour daily reading these newspapers.

IMHO, TOI is bad, the writers or editors publish their opinions and present the news in the way they think is right.

HT is quite okay in that sense. They present the news in an unbiased way and let you form an opinion on things unlike TOI. And I like the editorials on sundays.

Mumbai Mirror is good for its front page stories, and that is it, nothing else. I think it sells because of its 'ask the sexpert' column (?) .

@OP, try IE, or may be shun the newspapers, there are many sites you can subscribe to for feeds.
