Is it really worth it?

^^ I still don't get what you saying :p

If you have a sempron based rig with 256mb ram, 40gb hdd and a 15" crt, will you spend 30K to buy a x1950xtx ??
The console is just one part of the package. Obviously you have to add proper Display Device and speakers to experience everything it has to offer.

As for the prime usage of TVs, get a 21" for that :p It costs next to nothing nowadays. :D Save up for the real thing.

^^ You mean you're ready to spend 30K on an xbox and god knows how much on games, then play that on a SDTV over composite, and then complain it doesn't look any special and sounds bad as well?

I get that and you're right, but one can always hook their X360 to their monitor and get the same results even if it's a smaller screen.

Wow... This has started to look like a thread to discuss whether high-def TV's are required or not!!

Keep up the good work guys!!:hap2: :hap2: :hap2:

@sidharth

does it luk like that to u....its not...the moot point I am making is lot of people dont consider the tv as add on cost as they wud go for the best tv anyway...my god...am i not clear enuf.

errr...no :p When buying a TV, people will usually get the cheapest 29" they can find :D HD, progressive scanning and component inputs are completely frivolous to them :p

Edit: I think the main difference of opinion is that yo're referring to a TV as something to watch Saans Bahu on, while I'm referring to a TV simply as a display device.

No zhopudey....now u r being unreasonable...

I kn lots of people who own top notch televisions but dont game one bit....I guess thats why I hold this view...

and yes i wouldnt watch even saans bahu on a crappy 29".

oh and pl let the double post happen...

90% of the people who buy top notch TVs in India wudnt buy them if it were just a gaming thingy...well atleast in India and just THAT is my point.

Ohhh....are you trying to say that people will not buy an HDTV just for the xbox? Well of course they won't :p But who says the TV is just for gaming? With new technologies like digital cable, CAS, DTH etc coming up, the TV is just a display - you hook up your source to it, and the HDTV will make it look better. Although CAS and DTH are still pathetic in that department, with their STBs just offering composite out :(; at least we have upscaling DVD players from samsung / philips selling real cheap.

But coming back to our argument, I must agree that 'most' people will not consider upgrading their display for the xbox. They will buy the core version, and come home and find out it doesn't look all that better than their PS2, and feel cheated by microsoft :p (Console fans, let's leave the gameplay part out of this for now :p)

So, my question is, if you want to experience 'Next gen Gaming', how do you expect to do it on display which is 3 generations old??

abey zhopy bhai...ofcourse u need a good HDTV for good xbox exp...

but...its unfair to say that HDTV is completely an add on cost to xbox coz top notch TV has a major purpose even otherwise and people buy them coz they have much value outside gaming...screwing jackass period.

its multipurpose...so its not an add on cost to xbox...while no doubt it helps the experience...

ok il put it in simpler words...

top notch HDTV TV is abs essential for good xbox360 gaming but since that same TV has a major major other purpose dont put its cost on xbox360 head...

:p

Its more of an implied cost I guess ;) Like, a x1900xtx costs around 30K. But you need a 5K PSU to make it work. And a 10K dual core cpu, and 2gb of fast ram if you want to enjoy it :eek:hyeah: But then since these other things will also be used for other stuff like encoding movies and maybe even work (gasp!), we shouldn't necessarily count these in the x1900's cost.

Correct?

Good :devil2: Which brings us to the original post:-

The "Cyber Cafe" guy near my college just bought a brand new X-BOX 360 alongwith a plasma tv and excitedly told us to go and check it out. He's charging 40Rs per hour.. Quite reasonable for a next-gen console.. So we decided to go and check it out. Presently he has only game, PGR3 , which i think is complimentary.

Apparently, this chap uses his plasma only for the xbox

Hey, how'd you know that??? Absolutely right.. Busy with my pracs, going to check the cabling done by him the moment I get time...
