Hmmm , confusing here.....here is the current scenario...
My rig : e2160 + gf7050 + 2gb transend 800 mhz ram
My Pals new rig : e2180 + gf7050 + 1gb transend 800 mhz ram
Hmmm , so me running windows xp on mine and he's running xp. absolutely no issues with my setup...but today we got a new ram chip for his system ....and put it in , the system boots up , detects the ram at start up......
before i continue note : the system was working absolutely like a charm on the single 1gb 800mhz chip......the board says it supports only 667 but as found out everywhere on the net and even me using personally it runs ddr800 jus fine...
hmmm so , the ram is detected at post, system boots , vista screen and poof!.....physical dump bsod and auto reboot...
......i thought its a bad ram chip , so i remove the old one and let the system boot only with the new one , and :S the system boots just fine!!........
next step , is it the ram slot ? : i use the ram chip in both the slots , works fine , system boots perfect.........
so then i put both the chips back in and poof!...again bsod and reboot........
that sets me wondering ..........
is it a bad ram chip ?
is it a bad ram slot ?
or
is it just vista acting up saying hey!....u dint install me with 2gb of ram.........?
so thinking of all the 3 above........i decide , well.......let me try something.....
wat i do here is , i go to the BIOS and go to the OC menu , run : LINKED at 3:2 ratio......and i set the RAM frequency to run at : 667......the CPU freq. gets bumped to 2.2ghz ( a slight oc of 200mhz ) .......save and allow it to boot......and :S i get the vista desktop !!!............no BSOD.....working fine!!......that gets me wondering if the board is not able to handle 800mhz 2x ram chips.........
the only best and fast way to check is to take my 2x chips at his place and check if the system boots up at 800mhz stock or not....if it doesnt!......then its vista or the board
alternately another easy way out would be to just bring his hdd and connect it to my pc and allow it to boot......n check........
any other suggestions ? or know-abouts on wat could be wrong........
