I noticed that both my 500 GB Western Digital as well as my 1 tb Seagate internal hdd did not have the option "enable advanced performance" checked.

HOwever I do have write caching enable.

Being that we live in India and power outages are very common, is it wise to keep "enable advanced performance" checked?

I have a UPS, but if by any chances I don't hear the UPS beeping and I don't turn off the PC in time, what are the chances that my data gets corrupted?

Second of all, is there any program that can sync with your UPS and detect when it becomes active so the computer can shut down on its own, without having to manually switch off the power once it goes off?

Well,
1. if u have frequent powercuts
2. Or U are unavailable to shutdown ur PC
3. Or schedule a shutdown (if u are using communicating cable between UPS and PC)

then, u may not enable that option. However, even if u dnt enable that option, a sudden power outage will still damage the HDD.

Best option is, enable it, enjoy the speeds and use a good auto shutdown UPS for peace of ur mind and ur components. :P

^^^I've got an APC 1001 but it doesn't have auto shutdown capability. Is there any 3rd party software I can download. I'm not sure there is anything I can even connect the UPS and PC with though...Only seems to have to ethernet type ports, but I think thats to protect phone line surges...

If u got a USB cable ith ur UPS, it wil have PC communication.

I think if u have APC 1100, that does not have USB connectivity, though not sure. Check ur package contents.

What does advanced performance mean here ?

This is more a function of the filesystem i think. If you use a journalled filesystem eg. NTFS which given the HD size is very likely then if the power goes off you only lose the updates to the file(s) you were writing to, at the time of shutdown as the write would not have the time to complete. The rest of your files would be unaffected and also wont apply to files being read as no modification occurs.

So when you next restart, the OS will do some checks and find the files that were modified and fix them. Ideally you dont want this to happen :)

What is 1001 ?

I've heard of 1000 & 1500, both of these can switch off the PC after the battery has reached a designated point.

Their own software powerchute does this but its not clear which model you are using.
