Is MESH suitable for me?

I am currently using Jio fiber internet and have 4 rooms , I can hardly get signal in second room with 5GHz - I had an old tenda AC router which had wireless repeater mode - I enabled it , but still its not that great.

I was exploring MESH concept, so below are my questions:
  • If I get a wifi 6 router and use it instead of Jio router will it be better?
  • Can I get a MESH router and use it instead of jio router and is it even possible?
  • Or should I get an range extender and be done with it?
 
Pros:
- Mesh routers would be more consistent and provide a more seamless experience than that Tenda router repeater you enabled, or any other range extender for that matter.
- They would also provide better coverage than the Jio router, of course, since you can have 1 router in every room or at least closer than 1 single router in the middle.
- Same goes for a single wifi 6 router. Considering you have 4 rooms, there's a high chance 1 router won't be sufficient (unless ofcourse the rooms are close together on a single floor, but even then it's dicey).
- You will still have to use the Jio router as a modem. You cannot replace it. Just connect a cable from the LAN port of the Jio router to the WAN port of the mesh one.
- You could however disable WiFi on the Jio router if it's possible (don't have Jio so cannot confirm). This way, the only wifi in your house would be the mesh wifi.
Cons:
- You'd be behind a triple NAT. But if you don't know what this means, then there's a high chance that this wouldn't concern you.
- Mesh routers are a bit costly for the whole setup. You can always just start with 1 or 2 though and expand later.

Isn't it very costly and range extender should suffice? No ?

Could you suggest some budget ones

Range extenders work, but they are not convenient nor reliable.

A mesh network would mean you could seamlessly move between rooms and your phone would connect to the closest mesh router. Range extenders don't do this very well, even with recent advancements in technology.

And if the backhaul is wireless, then mash networks surpass range extenders even more. Wired backhaul would be similar in both cases though.

Sure it is expensive to set up a whole mesh solution, but like I said, just start with 1 or 2 and add more down the line when the budget allows for it.

But if budget is really a primary concern, then range extenders it is. Just make sure to get all of the same company, preferably one that matches your main router as well.

I am not aware of any budget mesh routers, but TPLink makes great value products, so their mesh line should be good value too imo.
 
Ok < I was fiddling my joi fiber router and found a setting for mesh configuration - so if I purchase a mesh supported router like

Huawei AX3 WS7100 it should work in MESH , I guess?​

 
1. Just get 2 pack Deco M4 (~4500).
2. Disable WiFi on JioRouter.
3. Connect the first Deco via wire to the JioRouter [You can set Deco in router mode (triple NAT) or AP Mode (double NAT), anything is fine, I use in Router mode].
4. Place the second deco in center and connect it to the 1st deco wirelessly - it should suffice - if possible, connect it via wire. Later you can expand if needed, or change the placement of second deco based on your needs.

I understand this, but i have this router lying around, don't know if i can achieve this mesh configuration or if anyone done mesh configuration enabled on jio fiber router... Probably will open new post

Mesh networks are usually proprietary. So if Jio has a mesh option, it'd probably only work with other Jio mesh products.

Exactly.
It'd only work with other Jio mesh products like their extenders.

I have now successful authentication with third party ont - TP-Link xz000-g3 gpon ont to pfsense (my pc) without original jiofiber router . Then Internet is working fine. So there is problem speed is not good because of fluctuations... Is there is problem with TPlink or pfsense configuration...

I am using the stock router which was given to me by Jio at the time of installation of JioFiber Broadband connection(Early 2022). I don't like it because it doesn't give much features in its web ui and i want to replace it with something better. Please suggest me how can I do it.

JIO uses GPON authentication and for it to work Its serial number needs to be authenticated at the ONU .
also it uses DHCP and not PPPoE unlike airtel so you dont need any username or password for it

    Locate the WAN MAC address on the back sticker of your Jio router.
  2. Get the 4-Character Router Brand Name and Convert to Hex [99% TIMES ITS SERCOMM ONLY]

I think there has been some miscommunication.

When I said they cannot replace Jio, I meant that they cannot use their personal router and put the Jio router in bridge mode.
Jio routers don't support bridging (unless something has changed recently).

If OP wanted to use a personal ONU, I'd have told them it was easy enough to do and they could remove the Jio router from their system altogether.
But considering they're on a budget, and never mentioned getting/having an ONU, I just summarized it to being that Jio couldn't be replaced.

But yes you're absolutely right. For someone interested in getting their own ONU (or router with ONU), it's quite easy to ditch Jio hardware completely.

I got 100Gb fiber plan with jio , but most often the speeds are not getting past the 2nd room - got 4 rooms on same floor - so I have an AC 10 tenda router setup as repeater mode in 2nd room - but speeds are good , but it takes so much time to load from repeater wifi and sometimes jio router is better...

I wanted to explore options like getting a better repeater as in wifi 6 or 6e OR a range extender
Other option is setting up mesh which I thought would be possible with jio fiber router as I checked

How much is your budget?

What are your expectations/plans -
a. Jugaad with minimum cost and reusing the current hardware; can compromise on convinence/preformance/speeds.​
b. Proper MESH setup without compromising on convenience/performance/speeds.​

WiFi 6 or 6e wont give you extra range. 5GHz WiFi 5 (802.11ac) with sufficient range would be ideal for your plan and use case scenario.
IMO and experience, Range Extenders have always been a PITA, unless connected with wire, then it is just any other AP.

Hang on - Wifi 6 is still 5ghz band, its 6E that's 6ghz... I have a TPLink Deco X60 unit which I recommend if you have fast internet and/or want 1gbit wifi speeds. Else an X20 (wifi 5) set would work well if you have , say , 300 mbps internet plan...
