On careful inspection I found that 1 of my seagate hdd is making phip phip phip phip phip phip sound this is a continuous sound coming as if while spinning its getting scratched by something. It stops for few mins only then it starts again.

Is my hdd failing?

I have seagate 1.5Tb disk too but my serial was not in the list of effected disk.

exactly same problem with my 7200.11 1.5TB disc as well. No disc test fails but the sound is there.
RMA time?

My problem is that I have 4 seagate disk & I have to identify the bad one & take huge data backup & then send the disk for RMA.

Identifying should not be much of a pbm.. just d/c power cable to any 2 and check if noise persists... identifying in 2 attempts max.. the lateral thinking way :hap2:

Download Seatools (the appropriate version) from the Seagate website, install and run to check the state of your HDD. If it reports errors, be happy. RMA your HDD.

Try a different power supply for the HDD. It worked for me when i swapped the power supply from my DVD Drive.

The sound is gone now I could not pick out the faulty disk.

I tried swapping the power plugs & that seems to have solve the problem as of now, though I don't understand the logic behind this but I hope the disk doesn't fail me without showing signs.
