Residential accomodation in Noida - queries!

So I was planning to move to Noida for my job, when I heard all sorts of horror stories both online and offline, about how unsafe the NCR is, how one shouldn't go out alone after 9 in the evening, how individual houses don't assure saftey and the like.

I would like to know from folk staying there, how much truth is there in all this. I don't trust the media since they exaggerate a lot of stuff. Every place has its share of problems, but is the situation in NCR - Noida in particular - so bad? I had a really good impression of the place in terms of infrastructure and planning.

PS: Before anyone takes offence to this, let me state that I am just gathering information / opinion on the place, and not stating my views.

Noida is reasonably safe. No need to panic to be frank. Being a suburb, Noida hasnt got a night life as such but sector 18 mkt is quite abuzz till permissible late nites.

If at all, i can say Greater Noida after evening is to be avoided. Even people who have purchased houses in Gt Noida, they prefer renting the house out to somebody and stay in main Noida area as Greater Noida still has considerable influence of the Gujjars.

Law and order in Gt Noida is a concern.

If you are planning to get the job in the Noida, i dont think there is any cause or need to worry. You can easily even consider the STM in Gt noida .. you get to work normal hrs and head back to home via company cab/bus.

Sectors which have gained preferences for IT people like sector 62 ( and which is not considered the core area ) are pretty good too. Friend been changing room quite frequently and has been pretty much comfortable so has been the wife and the kid.

I been living in noida since 1988. I can assure you nothing for you to break into a sweat.

agantuk please don't be offended but I think either you are paranoid or insane :P

NCR is as safe as any other city in India, Noida is evolving as a new IT hub and has almost all the major IT players settled in here. If you are talking about crime rate it is more or less same everywhere. Wanna read more about Noida:

Noida is perfectly safe. Though not lived there, but have been there many times. Yes the new sectors are slightly empty after and should be avoided, but in the heart of the city and ancillary colonies it is similar to any other "A" grade Indian city. Has a high influx of working professionals from other cities who are honest and keep to themselves.

That's definitely reassuring since I haven't come across a lot of 'native' Noida folks :)

Haha. Actually I have always thought that Noida was a nice and safe place, yes, not as much as say the other IT hubs like Bangalore, Hyderabad or Chennai, but nothing alarming. However, I have of late heard stories of this 'not safe' thing - some even from people who have recently moved "back" to NCR, that I was getting worried. Not being able to go out after 8 without having to worry about safety is something I find hard to digest. I am not a party animal, but most of my outings happen after 9 or 10, so that definitely is a concern

^Nothing like that, unless you are living in the area of Noida which are currently developing and do not have much security as of now (that too only in night). What is the location of your office?

^Ohh BTW sometimes I have to travel to work even at 3AM very early morning ;)

I worked there for 5 Years and it is as good and bad as any other city. They are in NEWS all the time because media concentration is highest in NCR, you'll not found such small stories from other cities make it as breaking news.

One thing applicable to all new in some city is, Play safe.

Which means if there is some advisory or some information from team mates, follow that. Like in bangalore(my area), 6 moths back we got an advisory that don't go walking post 10 as there are mugging incidents. Now I don't really know the truth, but Its always better to avoid. Isn't it.

I traveled from Noida Sec - 59 to Delhi & Ghaziabad, on pulsar, several times post 12 in night & never had any incident, (In fact I used to cross Khora colony). I also remember walking at south ex at around 1-2 ni night and hiring an Auto for 60 Rs to RK puram (old days :))

Now I am not asking you to go and roam at unexplored areas in night and not at all boosting any thing about NCR night life. But you can get robbed in your home city, you just need a bad day. :).

So treat it as a normal city, be cautious in start & expand slowly. Its applicable to all cities.

good luck.

OK, from what I gather, staying in an apartment complex seems to be a relatively safe solution.

What would be the good residential locations in Noida with apartments, and what kinda rent should I expect to give for a 2 bedroom + study or 3 bedroom flat? Also, what is the structure of advance like - how many months of rent needs to be paid as advance? Is 15K a reasonable rent for a 2 BR + study / 3 BR kinda setup, or is it less? I am looking for unfurnished spaces

not to go out alone after 9pm man tats scary

here in Bombay u can go out anytime u want

i think it is the safest city

I had 3 bachelors frnds staying in a house for 12k. 3 BR + 1 study.

Another house in my building with 3 BR + Small Garage - 10k.

The location of this sector is pretty good and considered posh regarding flat system sectors.

Noida is not big like delhi that one needs to travel a lot to get from one end to the other.. so location wont be a problem but at times people show preferences. You can speak to me when you start planning.. So that when you land here i get to mug you first and then help you locate the new place .. So much for the security of the TEites ;)

^ Which sector? And what do you mean by flat system sectors? Are you by any chance referring to existence of sectors with only / predominantly bungalows?

You mention a house. IINM, flats usually end up costing slightly higher than individual houses. Even otherwise, 10K for a 3BHK sounds very reasonable (compared to the rents that I see around me here :D )

Well either you stay in a flat or can rent out a proper house. What is gen referred as a 'kothi/bunglow' in reg parlance. Friends who got families would prefer the latter at times. Renting out a floor also is reasonable but abt 5 km away from the core noida, which is not far and so is again good option.

A lil update, spoke to people around after seeing ur post.. the 3BR flat i mentioned above been going for abt 14k offlate.

Gimme a gtalk ping/call if you can and will speak to you regarding this.

born & brought up in Bombay, once i got out of office @ fountain, fort area very late night after work, i can say morning @ around 3am, it was raining very heavily, thought i could find a cab as i stay 35 kms from office, could not find anything and it was all empty, its a usual routine for me as my work goes i have to wait late many times but this night was different, for the first time i was scared & i had to walk down half a km to cst station for a cab & finally i was much relieved.

yes, i want to repeat it again, Bombay is the safest city compared to any city in INDIA.
