Is our country a lost cause ?

I am flabbergasted by this one. What does trinkets or religion have anything to do with the topic at hand? Pardon my french, but as they say opinions are like, everyone has one - no one can be impartial. If one doesn't have trinkets or religion etc, I think he is "partial" to atheism :)
But reading through the post, and in spite of the cover it tries to put on towards the end, I feel it is more to do with "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" and the central government. Are we really going to turn this into another of the political threads on TE with all its cursing and no actual point to be made? If yes, I am out.

It has everything to do with the topic at hand. I have my "valid" opinion just like you. I am flabbergasted that you are flabbergasted. If you feel no points are being made, that is your view. Not mine.

Sarcasm aside. That one line is the most valid point as an Indian we all hold true to our self. For an average Indian, his identity is defined by religion, culture, language, state etc. If you feel I am wrong, please read news or watch TV. If I am wrong, I am wrong. How do you think, India will happen if we are still small groups? Its 2016, and still states fight for water. Its 2016 and still one state say, this state is just for people born in this state. Its 2016 and still states needs be to split for "administrative" reasons. Ports are being constructed for creating trans shipment in India itself, but people are still bickering INSIDE the state. It is happening in Kerala, my state. There are people in rural India where honor killings happens because their culture or religion is being violated, according to their retarded logic. People are happy to hoist their non existent royal family flag in their vehicles during Independence day. Not Indian flag though. People are religious enough to take the new vehicle to poojas and all and tie all the religious trinkets on it but not the road rules. So yea, point was made. You just missed it or you dont feel they mean anything. which I respect. But do not call strangers just because you don't get something. Because decency.

I am not sure what you mean by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. This is from that Harry potter books. Am i missing anything? Its fine if I missed. don't see the point as you say.

There are many things which can be said here but frankly I don't want to involve in mud slinging :
1. No one is calling you anything. Its a movie quote. Look it up.
2. There is a report button, do use it judiciously specially when you feel that someone has called you something. IMO TE is not 4chan where we need name calling to take discussions forward.

Switch on a News channel and you'll get the answer to your question, especially if you watch the debates in which party representatives are the guests.
Also if you can, watch how our chosen lawmakers behave in Parliament or Legislative Assembly. That is evidence enough for what a joke most of our chosen representatives are and how they have made a mockery of the system.
I hadn't switched on a News channel for nearly six months now and I was getting along merrily with my life but just watching a few hours of what's happening in the country, irritates and depresses me to no end.

All millennial plebs need to get down on their knees and thank their stars that they can watch cartoons any day of the week, any time they want.
Growing up in the 80s and early 90s was mind numbingly boring unless you were rich and could afford a new He-Man every week or rent English movies every other day.

I had to wait 7 days for 20 minutes of He-Man, rest of the time we had the stellar DD tele-programming to contend with which consisted mainly of regional musicians playing depressing tunes on Sitar.

well all this has made children now addicted to tv and is spoiling their social and physical developement.

That's a typical dadaji response and you know it.
Let's all go back to the stone-age, anything that makes our life easier makes us more vulnerable to tiger attacks.

TV/Internet may make children lazy and anti-social, but going out means they may get addicted to DRUGS or get KILLED or join a GANG.

Does anyone remember the weekly show "The World This Week" which used to show every Friday evenings with Prannoy Roy of NDTV? I used to wait eagerly for that as a kid to get a glimpse of what was happening outside this country in the rest of the world. This was like around 1991.

^ Yep World This Week and Turning Point (hosted by Naseeruddin Shah iirc).
The highlight of our household evenings used to be taking bets on which newsreader would get facetime on the DD Evening News. Sad...

lol , that happens in cheap and shady places. No druggies where i grew up. Children today are much more addicted to smoking, drinking and weed than they ever were even after all the awareness. never knew going out makes one drug addicts. Smoking up is now glamorised on the internet where majority now sit all day.

Turning point was usually hosted by Girish Karnad and also used to have a section hosted by famous Indian Physicist Yashpal Singh.
