Hi all,

I have recently got hold of penriumD 805 processor of my friend.Since i know this processor can be overclocked due to its high mutiplier 20. Also am planning to get Gigabyte G41 which i recently got for my friend.

I am impressed by board..checked out its features also its compatible with this processor.

Now i plan to use this processor along with my main rig...I am going to overclock it to 3.5ghz on stock heatsink...

I am going to use VIP 400W PSU(FSP OEM)..

My doubts:
Will this PSU be enough for powering this machine?

Will i need third party cooler if i overclock?

Will this processor be a bottleneck if i add 4650 GPU?

Please pour in your suggestions...:)

How would you know the vip 400w that you are grabbing is FSP OEM or not? Newer units do not come with a UL number.

Well, yeah. Then again if you think about it, assuming your board is compatible with newer LGA775 processor, aren't you better off getting a new processor rather than overclock an old one, especially this one. Wouldn't you agre that a newer processor on stock would be a better choice compared to an OCed pentium D? Think about it.

What's your screen's resolution? Make efforts to edit your first post and put all the relevant details of your hardware.

@sorcerer

Thanks for prompt reply...I bought this PSU long time back from prime..Its a VIP 400W EX PSU...its has got the bluish casing...i am thinking it has to be FSP OEM...

Will check out UL number&will let you know since the PSU is somewhere in my house junkyard...:P but had been using PSU for old P4 rig till last year so i assume it has to be in working condition...

Now overclocking this processor will generate a lot of heat&also will increase will my power bills but i don`t intend to use for long hours..

My screen resolution is 1920*1080...:)

PS:Will FSP saga 350W be enough for this setup?

Google out the ul number, you will get the relevant info this way.

Exactly, so again, don't you think you're better getting a better processor rather than buying a heatsink to overclock an old one?

Hmm? First check if your unit is an FSP OEM before even thinking about changing the psu. Make the decision in regards to processor based on the points that are already being made.

Checked my VIP PSU..i dont find UL number listed...:huh:All i could find is serial&part number..what do you suggest sorcerer?I am not going to overclock after going through your suggestions,as i find it it would be waste with marginal increase in performance...

^This is the UL number he's referring to:

How did you know that this's an FSP OEM btw?

I do know that where the UL number is usually listed after i googled out...but can't find it on my PSU...I thought its an FSP OEM since it came in bluish casing which resembles FSP bluestorm PSU....:ashamed:

It looks like this one which is an fsp unit:

Oh it seems it is an fsp OEM. You don't need to change the psu if you're getting an 4650 :). As for the aftermarket heatsink, could you mention which board you're using?

thanks again mate...:) i bought this PSU afte going through several threads in TE where members told that VIP PSU with bluish casing is an FSP OEM...:)

I currently have an intel D101GCC mobo which am going to sell since the board doesn't have overclocking options...am going to buy gigabyte G41 motherboard...Also need to know even if i don't overclock my processor will this PSU suffice for my needs alongwith the GPU?

Assuming its the 4650 or even a 4670, yeah it will do fine.

You can do that or go the AMD way if you don't have an Intel board.
I have already decided on intel board though i know that socket775 is almost phased out...For my everyday usage any dual core would suffice...at the most even if i want to upgrade i can later on buy a secondhand quad...:) i won`t be upgrading for next 3to4yrs...am sure i won`t have to...

Bumping this thread again...any good thermal paste i should buy for this processor?
i already have tuniq X2 which i bought from prime few months back...will this be effective?
