Is VIT a good college?

Bit mesra is different from the BITS Pilani-goa-hyderabad.

IMO it is a good college and in the first counselling of aieee, the top rankers get there. However in subsequent counsellings people drop out and slowly people with rank below 30k also get admission.

Sample me, I got 17k in aieee 2 years back and at the 6th counselling i was gettin civil. :p

But then dropped it as i got admission in dce(dtu).

And regarding VIT, some of my friends took admission there by paying money (they got really poor rank in VITEE) and personally, i don't like the feel of it. It has pretty good infrastructure and you will get to know students from different places. Overall , you get to have fun and you pay for that fun (little bit on the expensive side)

Hope you do well in Aieee. Thats pretty much the second most important exam. And try gettin a good score in BITSAT. anythin above 300 or at the max, 270-280.

BITSAT requires speed and you really cannot afford silly mistakes at that pace.

Bits Pilani is what i consider the second best college after brand IIT.

^BITSAT does not require speed as aieee and other exams demand. Clearing the logical reasoning questions takes time. i remember finishing my exam 15mins earlier and i got 318/450. you get bonus 50 questions if u attempt the all the 150 questions.

Booze, girls, good food, no restrictions- Absolute fun. I

Of course, if you don't like any of these above

I dont want any of these.

god so u're in bits right now? yea Im doing the papers, the maths section is time consuming for me, rest are pretty standard questions..

nope man i am in NIT calicut now i got 4K in aieee.

One funny part is BITSAT questions repeat from test to test .. my classmate Pranav Reddy gave his test 3 days prior to me and he told me the questions he got and 4 of them matched !!!! so its better if you have any friends giving BITSAT before your slot

VIT is not bad AFAIK, mostly at the level of Manipal, but with a much more conservative mindset.

Thats what I have heard in my 3 years at MIT

man 4k rank wow. but a question, 4k rank isn't enough for nit trichy or warangal or surathkal? and also tell me, wasn't 300+ score in bitsat enough to get through? Now that they have 3 campuses at Hyd and Goa as well.

Sad thing, I have no friends who are giving it before me. Earlier is my date, I know some 10 giving it on the 14th. I'm doing the previous year papers 2005-2010, and yea the questions are repeated, especially from aieee.

i can get in warangal, trichy and surathkal but only civil, chemical and biotechnology were available. so opted for mechanical in Calicut.

The sad part of it is i dont know that time that there is a seat sorting process called "SLIDING" in which you can change to a higher branch in the same institute based on your All India Rank.

The next year onwards they started implementing College sliding in which you can slide to a better NIT based on AIR.

Better be aware of this before you go for aieee counsellling.

i didn't bother about BITS that time. once i checked and i was getting electrical in GOA i guess.

After i joined NIT calicut i found that all of my roomates have 350+ in BITSAT, so didn't feel bad about losing it.

^^ ok ok. hmm yeah sliding

i went through their procedure on the ccb.nic.in site.

I'll ask you if I have any queries is that okay?

Well.. I remember that :D hehe.. BITSAT is pretty easy compared to other exams. Just give your best in those 3 hours and you'll get a decent score :)
When i wrote 3 years ago, the cut off for hyd campus was around 260. You'll get some BE+MSc courses. Around 300 can get you a decent branch.
BITS is a brand and always better than VIT. :)

yeah thats fine....

there is a guy from NIT Surathkal in TE i think nuke'em (got to know from this thread)try asking him as well.

@pranavreddy i still had that chat stored in gmail...you were saying those questions. Thanks for the 12 marks tip mama ;)

Yeah I'm doing well in the previous year tests which I do everyday. Maths is a bit tough, but physics is damn easy.

Yup, I'm more inclined to an NIT or BITS than VIT anyday.

And how's the campus life at NIT?

choose the college depending upon the stream you are interested in. certain colleges have good faculty in certain branches.

whats your area of interest??? i think its CSE from your ID...

^^ I am interested in CSD, but also electronics and telecommunication, information tech, open to other streams as I intend to do MBA.

But there's another option mingling in my mind. I have this dream to work with Intel or AMD or similar companies(mainly Intel), you know, after doing VLSI MTech from abroad(if I do it maybe), which stream is requisite if I want to do VLSI in MTech?
