Hi,

This is going to be a little unethical query, please bear with me. My friend has a sata crucial ssd. It is a few years old. It has slowed down considerably. He went to the crucial service center for rma twice but they are saying that as per crucial software it is ok. They are not creating a replacement. Just 1 month warranty is left. Upon several requests, one of the service center guys told him to make it inaccessible without damaging it and they will do the rest. Is there any way to make it useless without damaging it so that crucial can allow replacement? Sorry for this unethical question.

For wd drives, one needs to register the s/n and invoice on their website for warranty purposes. Is the same true for crucial also?

Thanks

Secure erase the SSD and the performance should be back.
It didn't help. The health is 18% as per crystal disk info. The service center guys are nice they said that something is wrong with the drive but they cannot rma as crucials softwares are passing this drive. One of them was kind enough to tell him to make it unusable.

Microwave it for 2 seconds and that should destroy the controller without any physical damage.

Warranty conditions of a SSD is completely different from that of a mechanical hard drive. Here warranty specifies "X" months or "X" TBW. Since the health is just 18%, I think it has crossed its TBW warranty. fellow members can provide better help if you can share complete crystal disk info status of that SSD.

It will definitely cause physical damage
Yes, SSDs have a max TBW or Years of warranty, whichever reaches first.
Also microwaving can cause sparks and burn marks.

The drive has become very very slow. Even a 1gb file takes 10 minutes to copy. The service center is saying that the drive is faulty but as per them crucial diagnostic softwares are passing it, so they cannot rma. One guy was kind enough to say to make it not detectable or something and they will do rma. Only condition is no physical damage.
