I have several problems with the sub-par service I'm being provided by my ISP. I can't switch to any other ISP because the only option I have is overpriced and apathetic MTNL.
1. A proper call centre is not set up. The number isn't toll free and it works between 10-6, if that. Not a single call is picked up on Sundays. This violates the TRAI regulations so I sent a mail to TRAI few days ago, but no reply from their end.
2. We're encouraged to book complaint via SMS, but it is often necessary to talk to someone who knows what might be issue to resolve it quickly. I think this also violated TRAI regulations.
TRAI regulations: www.dot.gov.in/sites/default/files/TCCRR0012012.pdf
(It says Provided that nothing contained in these regulations shall apply to an Internet Service Provider whose turnover in any preceding financial year does not exceed rupees five crore or whose total number of subscribers in any preceding financial year does not exceed ten thousand numbers, as the case may be. Do I need to use RTI to get TRAI or my ISP listen to me?)
3. The quality of service is pathetic. Two days ago my connection wasn't working properly so I went to check their switch installed in my neighbour's terrace. It has no protection whatsoever. I also noticed it was changed. Previous switch was iBall (yuck! ) while the 'new' one is Trendnet (yuck! ). Also the word new is used to note the change in router. It looks like a really old switch. For past few days, my connection stops working frequently, starts working again and it just drives me crazy. In last two hours, it disconnected 7-8 times and I almost shouted an expletive.
I want to know where they are spending my money if an old switch by a crap company is replaced by another old switch by a crap company.
Is there any way I can force my ISP to set up a call centre and improve quality of service? I'm starting online stocks trading soon and I can't work (or play) with such an abysmal service.
